Question about Apple MacBook 13"White /2.0Ghz Intel Core2 Duo White/2GB (2x1gb)/80GB/SuperDrive (Z0DT) Mac Notebook

Loading OSX 10.5

A friend of mine bought me the upgrade from OSX 10.4 to 10.5. However whenever I attempt to load it onto the computer it stops at the purple galaxy screen and goes no further. I let it go for 10 hours before rebooting it. When I had someone look at it they took the disc and were able to successfully load it onto another macbook. Any ideas?

When the installation stops, try to press the Escape button to see where it gets stocked. You might have to do a fsck -p command to fix your hard drive.

My MacBook Pro keep running never finish to load the system

If it gets stuck on the loading screen its a chance that it can be one of 3 things.

1. The Hard Drive is bad. This can happen when a sector of the hard drive is corrupted and the information contained on it was vital system files for loading the Mac OSx system.

2. The RAM. Sometimes when loading the OS, it loads into the RAM. This executes some of the short programs that can cause the system to get stuck.

3. Sometime the operating system just craps out. This will require you to enter recovery mode. Just restart your computer and hold down the R key and it should load into the recovery partition.

My Macbook pro turns on but then gets stuck at the Apple logo with the loading gear and never finishes loading.

See if you can start your Mac in safe mode:

Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally without holding down any keys during startup.

If you can boot in safe mode, you have something on board your computer that's interfering with startup. If you've recently installed software, system extensions or 3rd party preference panels (Adobe and Microsoft stuff is notorious), try to disable or de-install it. If you can't get booted in safe mode, you may have a hardware or memory problem that might require technical repair. Repost your progress.

Hi Bobby
You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8

Hi Sahemric,

What OS is running on your system also, OS9 or OSX. I've got to wrack my brain to remember how to check in OS9 (it's been about 6yrs since I last used it) but in OSX it's very simple. Goto the apple symbol in the menu bar choose 'About this mac' then 'more info...' and in the left hand 'Contents' panel in the 'Network' section is 'AirPort Card'. Select that and if it says 'No information found' then you ain't got it! Otherwise it will give you the Make, model and settings.

If you have got one then the setup is different for each version of the OS so again I'd need that but that should get you part way there

All the best
Sean
