Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

How do you change the belt on a Singer 7462?

The belt has either broken or come off because you can press on the foot control and hear the motor running, but the Needle or Presser foot does not move. The Bobbin winder shaft is the only thing visible that moves. The only way to make the Needle move is to use the Hand Wheel. What is the easiest way to open it up to check if the belt is broken? Do you know what the part number is for the Belt?

Thank you,
Glenn

Hi,
By removing the top cover, or the turning wheel cover,
you will be able to see the belt.
If the belt is not broken, then try to adjust the belt tension,
by adjusting either the height of the motor, or the tension wheel.

Where is the light bulb on singer model 7462?

Here is the parts diagram.
Page 4 the 3rd leftmost item 87502 is the LED light circuit board.

I would start with page 11 diagram to take off the arm/head end cover because that's most likely where it is, just above the needle and foot, slightly off to the side.

If the swinging sound is from the motor, right side just below your hand wheel, possibility your motor belting is loose or broken. If you don't have mechanical skill / experience, suggest to get your local technician to fix it.

I have a Singer 7462 and when I try to load a bobin, the machine makes a nasty grinding noise and the needle slowly moves up and down and ultimately all of the lights on the stitch selection panel flash...

Ok, this is pretty common. Disengage the machine (as if you were winding a bobbin) run the machine at high speed for 5 minutes.
The motor is dirty and this will clean it out. You should hear the pitch of the motor change as the minutes go by.

Machine No. K1831(256) No.28 how do you set up the stop motion wheel to wind bobbins. It either winds bobbins whilst sewing or just free wheels. I think there must be a way of adjusting this action....

I lost my power cord for the singer 7462 part # 77234

Best to contact your nearest Singer dealer, or try calling a nearby service dealership for any brand, as we quite often have used foot controls or even access to replacements, even the ability to make them up on occasion.

I found that by turning the machine over on its back I could lift the front cover from the bottom and get it over the tension knob.
