Question about Acer Travel Mate 7720G-932G50MN Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, increasingly over the last month, when I try to switch my acer travel mate 7720G on it makes 1 long beep followed by two short beeps and then the screen remains black. I repeatedly switch it on and off (by holding down the on switch again), sometimes taking out the battery for 5 seconds, sometimes with all power disconnected and holding on button for 30 seconds (all things people and tech support have suggested I try) and there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what works. Sometimes it switches on on the 4th attempt, sometimes 20th, today I think I have tried it about 50 times and it hasn't switched on yet. Can you help at all? Thanks, Trudy.

I think the processor on your mainboard cause of overheating.
It is just random luck if your laptop will turn on.

Give the vents round the side and underneath a hoover out first, then check in acer e manager, there you should see settings for your fan, HDD and hibernation , you can set the fan on all the time or default, check it's set correctly and see if you resolve the issue. Turn hibernation off and HDD idle shutdown off to see if any change in shutdown. Does the pc shut down in any particular programme?

Try disassembling the laptop & make sure that all main components are seated properly. Also make sure that all ribbon cables interconnecting the various components of the laptop are tightly connected.

Any help for beeping acer laptop when opening..thanks

g'day!

i would like to know how many and the kinds of beeps? there are what they call beep codes which indicates what kind of problem the your laptop is experiencing: here are the common ones:

0 beep = no power, loose card, short
1 short beep = normal,POST (Power On Self Test), your computer is ok
2 short beeps = POST error, review screen for error code.
continuous beeps = no power, loose card, short
repeating short beeps = no power, loose card, short
1 long, 1 short beeps = motherboard issue
1 long, 2 short beeps = video issue
1 long, 3 short beeps = video display circuitry
three long beeps = keyboard/keyboard card error
one beep, blank, incorrect display = video display circuitry

aside from the 1 short beeps, you need to take your laptop to a technician to have it looked at.

cheers mate!

THE RED LIGHT IS ON AND BEEPS EVERY MINUTE

What motherboard do you have? If you don't know, provice make and model of your system and maybe we can find out that way. Is it one long beep? Are there any other beeps and/or a sequence. A good place to start and alot of times, depending on your bios, 1 to 3 beeps means a problem with the RAM(memory). If you have more than 1 stick, you can pull them out, restart and if the beep is the same, you've probably found your culprit. You can then insert one at a time in one of your slots, then restart. If this works, you've found a good stick. If not, try another slot and restart, etc. Try all sticks in all slots.

The most common beeps that you will encounter 95% of the time in repairing PC's are:

1 beep - computer ok
continous beeps / long beeps - memory error
continous short beeps - bios boot block/corrupted bios
1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps - video card error

or this might help

you can check out this list

AMI BIOS

1 short - Computer ok
2 short - RAM failure
3 short - Parity RAM failure
4 short - System timer failure
5 short - Motherboard failure
6 short - Keyboard controller error
7 short - CPU failure
8 short - Video RAM failure
9 short - ROM BIOS error
10 short - CMOS read/write error
11 short - Cache RAM error
1 short, 3 long - Memory failure
1 short, 8 long - Video adapter failure

Check board/chipset makers website for more infomation.

AWARD BIOS

1 long - Memory error
1 long, 2 short - Video error
1 long, 3 short - Video failure
Continuous beeps - Memory or video failure

note that AWARD relies on motherboard manufacturers to develop their own beep codes - the above are only their own internal codes. You will need to refer to your own manual for an explanation of precise codes.

Standard IBM beep codes.

4-4-1 Serial port error

4-4-3 Math co-processor error
the vga board has failed, its a very common problem in acer laptops, you can get a replacement part from www.acerparts.com im not sure if they ship into us but for europe thats where I get my parts.
my acers vga failed two times, ones within warranty and 12months after that, I have to say that acer products are really bad quality, I'm not sure about the latest models but from what I've seen the vga chipsets have real issues with the motherboards and keep failing over and over again.

I have not looked inside your model but the vga is either integrated into the motherboard = that means the repair will cost the whole motherboard, better to buy a new one.

if your model has a removeable vga like mine does, then you can consider changeing it to a new one. contact acer parts.

One of the covers in the bottom is the memory, one is network and last one I don't remember.
here are the contact details if your acer is out of warranty
http://www.acerparts.com/contact_us.php

The parts for your model are at http://www.acerparts.com/index.php?cPath=561_562_1064

you will have to contact acer parts directly, it may be that the vga is build into the motherboard or then the vga parts are not listed.

Hope this may help;
