Out of Focus Scans

I am an artist and I use the Cannon LIDE 70 to scan my color drawings. In the last few months the scans have become increasingly out of focus. Plus some colors like pink scan poorly. Is there any way to adjust for these issues?

You have some limited color adjustment settings in ScanGear that you can play around with. I would recommend recalibrating the scanner. This is done in ScanGear Advanced mode under Image Settings.

Check your hard drive space and system RAM requirements. Often this happens because there is not enough "Scratch Pad" space..OR RAM these days 4GB is too small sometimes.

Canoscan LIDE 25 using Vuescsan software

The first scan is 'pre-scan' and the second one is the real scan. The pre-scan shows you a rough image and you can check borders etc. Look for options and switch off 'Pre-scan' S. Mohan, India

Bad contrast with scanner

Last things first: NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE.

That's the way HP does things. There are no rheostats or pots to adjust. It's all done electronically now, with chips and things.

You never said how it does with color or greyscale photos or drawings.

As for the RGB=(64,64,64), that's about right for the scan picture settings and the mixed (text and graphics) setting, and is particularly true for color picture settings. Have you tried using the setting for drawings (or line art), specifically greyscale drawings? Usually the greyscale lineart or drawing setting will render black text. You might also try scanning with the settings set for Text. If the greyscale drawing settings or greyscale text settings do not produce black text, try reinstalling your software and drivers.

If the contrast stays the same for all settings after reinstalling the software and drivers, and if it doesn't scan color and greyscale pictures correctly, then it sounds like your scanner is going bad.

As for the scans you've already done, you can darken the text by taking it into a photo editor, such as Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop, and adjust the contrast and brightness to get the effect you desire.

CanoScan Scanner can not complete a scan

Double-check all connections and try another port if possible. There may also be damage to cables or pins. Do you have another cable to try? Do other devices work in the same port?

Check if your Canon software creates a PDF image. A scanned image is a RASTER image, a series of dots, that 'appear' like text or drawing. You cannot use Ctrl-C or Ctrl-v. If the software creates a PDF file, you can cut & paste. Usr any good OCR (Optical Character recognition) software ad convert the raster image to editable text. Then you can cut & paste.
