I tried rebooting my Phillips X57 laptop. However the battery died on me halfway through. Now when i turn it on, the windows boot manager comes up. It says: 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. File: \windows\system32\winload.exe Status: 0xc000000f Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. You can contact me by emailing: Thanks, Dan

Note The computer must be configured to start from a CD or from a DVD. For
information about how to configure the computer to start from a CD or from a
DVD, see the information that came with the computer.
2. Restart the computer. To do this, click Start, click the arrow next to
the Lock button, and then click Restart.

This usually means that you enter bios setup by whatever key or keys
(sometimes there is more than one key that will do it for your model--go to
pc manufacturer site) and configure CD to be first in the boot order.

See for ref:
Access/Enter Motherboard BIOS

Boot Order in Bios (Set Boot from HD 1st)

Note If you cannot restart the computer by using this method, use the power
button to turn off the computer. Then, turn the computer back on.

3. Set your language preference, and then click Next.

Note In most cases, the startup repair process starts automatically, and you
do not have the option to select it in the System Recovery Options menu.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the operating system
that you want to repair, and then click Next.

6. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair to start the
repair process.

7. When the repair process is complete, click Finish.

Best bet would be to do a file restore for the OS. Here is a quick link that will guide you through the process.

Let me know how you make out.

My ibm thinkpad a21m runs ubuntu 12.04 and was left in sleep mode for a couple of days and now will not turn back on. just givesme a black screen. its like it turns on but doesn't do anything. no mouse and...

It sounds like it may be in hibernation mode. If it sounds like the PC is fully booted but just not showing a screen it may be that your window manager crashed. Try pressing to get a console window to reboot ($ sudo reboot). Otherwise try powering the system off by pressing and holding the power key or try the reset button (usually recessed i a hole) if you have one. If that doesn't work you may need to remove the power and let the battery die or remove it, to reset the machine. Be ready to reinstall Ubuntu from media. It can be while preserving your old files, if you configured your '/' and '/home' directories on separate partitions. If not you can possibly create that arrangement using the live CD before reinstalling.

Hp freeze in Windows Start

Try these steps:
1) Turn off your laptop
2) Pull the Battery out
3) Turn the laptop on
4) If it does the same thing, put the Battery back in and reboot it

Doing this may reset the Bios and get your PC booting back into Windows. Please let me know if this helps!

When I turn on my lab top the windows boot manager comes up

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Keyboard and Touchpad not working

When the batteries on that laptop no longer hold a charge it will cause teh problem you indicated. Remove the battery and restart from the AC power to check. If that fixes the problem you need to go into the devive manager and turn off the Microsoft battery manager. This will allow you to reinstall the battery without the problem.
