Question about Kenmore 74632 Gas Dryer

1 Answer

I have a kenmore 11074632300 when starts off from a cold start the first few times it fires up with the gas and there is no issue. After the dryer heats up a few times it will fail to start again until the dryer is cool. I went to Sears I purchased an Igniter #279311 and a Thermal fuse 3392519 and replaced the both of them. Cleaned it out pretty good (there was an insane amount of lint inside). Before I replaced them it did pretty much the same thing only I am not sure that it started as readily before in the beginning. I stink with a ohm meter so unless there was something I missed or some other idea the wife will be toating the laundry to the laundry mat to dry for the next few weeks.

I know what a thermo couple is and there is not one there the only thing close is on the side of the igniter there is a sensor when if remmoved the ignitor will stay on until the sensor is braught back close. Again I replaced the ignitor and the thermal fuse but still same issue. The ignitor comes on for a short time 3-5 seconds and shuts off with no flame. Once in a while the flame will come on usually when the unit is cold and first turned on. There is three small heat sensors I will purchase them in the morning and try to replace them if that does not work I will buy a new dryer. Can get a new one for about $400 it costs about $200 for a repair man to come

Ok when all was done it was replacement of burner coils called Sears and went to the web site they sell only the whole burner for $200. I found the Burner coils at a place here near by (Coon Rapids Minnesota called Dey Distributionhttp://www.deydistributing.com/ and got the burner coils for $25 and now the dryer works like new my part number for the coils (comes in a set of two) 279834 I hope that this helps some one!!! They are the tow circular tubes on the top of the burner its self they came off with a phillips driver

Next time you take the lint filter out to clean it, take it to the sink and pour some water onto it. Some filters, even from new, can have an oily substance on them that can block the mesh. If the water does sit on the mesh, you need to wash it with warm, soapy water to clean it. This allows the air to travel through it more freely and dry more efficiently. If the hot air builds up inside the unit, there is probably some sort of thermal overload detector that will shut the gas off

I ledt good nswer as you atleast left an answer but that was not it I ran the dryer with the screen out even (the lines are clear) but the problem still persists. It calls for heat I see the igniter glow and then hear a lick and nothing happens the igniter goes out. I can answer anything about cars and trucks but this is a little beyond my realm but usually I get it.

most gas appliances have a thing called a "flame probe" it acts like a thermocouple. The idea is that when you light the appliance, the flame probe detects the heat and holds the valve open. If the flame goes out, the probe cools down and shuts off the gas supply. This is a safety feature. If the probe is faulty, or , mis aligned, the gas will not stay on. Sounds like a job for a qualified repairman. Don't play with gas

when you start the dryer does the igniter glow red hot? they crack very easy.If you are sure you put the wires on the fuse the right way,and the igniter is glowing, and you remembered to turn the gas back on,( I've done that ), no kinks in the gas line. The next thing I would look at is the gas vavle, or coils. good luck.

Gas dryer starts blowing cold air after 5 minutes

This sounds like the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html

Kenmore dryer heats at first then quits

You may have a bad thermocouple. The thermocouple is what "tells" the control unit that the flame is present. If it doesn't tell the control, the control turns the gas off to prevent an explosion.

Kenmore 80 series gas dryer has not heat

most of these dryers have a little plastic plug on the front, left side. pop that plug out and look inside after turning it on. you should see a red glow. if not, then your ignitor has broken. if you see a glow, then the problem is probably one of the two little coils on the gas valve. these coils will sense if there is something to light the gas [the red glow] and open the valve - if the coils are bad, they won't open the valve
