Re: uniden 5.8 ghz
I reviewed the manual and do not see a mute key. However, I included a link to the manual below for you. Many cordless do not have a mute key, so I merely put my finger over the transmitter holes to mute. Kinda goofy, but it works. Thanks, CG

The DCX700 is an expansion handset for several different Uniden phones (DCT746, DCT748). To change the volume of the ringer, press the Vol + or Vol - button with the unit in Standby (not making calls). There are three ringer volumes: Off, Low and High. Pressing the Volume buttons will let you cycle through the list. The volume buttons are to the left of Talk below the LCD screen.
You can temporarily mute the ringer by pressing Mute while the phone is ringing.
To mute the ringer, while in standby mode press the volume-down button to select Off.
To mute the microphone, while talking press the MUTE softkey. To put the phone into do-not-disturb mode, press and hold the do not disturb button on the base.
You can download the manual from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.uniden.com/content/ebiz/uniden/resources/ownersmanuals/TRU8885om.pdf
Click onto Uniden book site and it takes you from page one to the end of the manual and that would be covered, because it is one of the first basic functions Be sure you click on Uniden site and not just a help site. Good luck, Teri I will see if I have the bookmark and send it to you.
A reply years later! - but as I was googling for it you just never know who it may help! You can temporarily 'Mute' a call if in 'Talk' mode (e.g. on an active call). The LED screen will show you a Mute soft key on the bottom left of the screen - use the silver button directly below to select 'Mute'. 'Mute on' will appear on the screen once you have selected - toggle this to turn off.
