Question about Panasonic DMR-E75V DVD Player/VCR

1 Answer

DMR-E75V Hi, I have one of these drd/vcr recorders and am having trouble with the dvd half. Just recently it has started rejecting disks (even brand new unused ones) it starts recording/playback and then stalls and shuts the system down. It will then tell you the disk needs reformatting which I have done but sometimes it then states unable to format and finally it responds with 'this is not a recordable disk - even ones it has previously recorded on. The first few times the problem appeared resolved by rebooting the system and I have just resorted to leaving the system unplugged overnight hoping it would sort itself out but it is still causing problems. Sometimes although a dvd has been reported as unformatable it has gone on to format it (albeit taking a long time to do it) but it would appear once it has reported it as a non recordable disk it is unrecoverable so I now have a pile of several disks which seem to have been destroyed by the recorder (including some brand new ones). It would appear that the dvd system has completely got its knickers in a twist whilst the vcr side of things is fully functional. Any clues/suggestions as to what could be the problem and possible resolutions would be appreciated. Kind regards Lynn Higgs

Same issue here. Ive tried diff disks, unplugging, blow-off, laser cleaner. I am wondering if it is temp related since it seems to work better in out thin air cool nights. I have adjusted its position to alow better airflow and may take a cold shower myself. Jim in BerqueNM

First of all you have to connect only one SCART cable ( one end to TV and the other to DMR ).When you are watching a program on TV select the DMR source ( input selector ) to SCART. Just press the record button with a blank DVD inside and it will record. Some Digital broadcast might have copy protect content which will prevent the recording from happening.

All dvd-ram, even new, apear to be protected, locked. I can not modify this status from 'disk management menu'. I can not record on them

You cannot record on ANY disc in this unit? Protection on? I have a DMR-EZ48V with the same issue. Protection ON - RW DVDs not recognised. From recent experience, I am advised that it is the DVD-RAM drive, this is not a serviceable part, it must be replaced, and the existing firmware upgraded/reset by an authorised service centre. Only a workshop with the right facilities can restore the record function in these combos, if it indeed CAN be restored. Panasonic are aware of this as a common problem but they cannot explain it. Not economical or cheap via this option - as new DVD drives can cost anywhere around $400+ plus labour!

Is it worth taking to a repair shop to get a FREE quote on likely costs? It's up to you. I don't want to feed you anything here, except what Panasonic Australia have informed me about.
