Question about Bosch Nexxt Premium WFMC6400UC Front Load Washer

1 Answer

A while ago the machine(Bosch WFMC 6400UC) started to misbehave, it would wash but not always spin at the end. It seemed to spin more consistently with a full load. I checked for debris/blockage in the pump and the drain line and found no problem. For a whiile it seemed to get better, failing to spin on perhaps 1 out of 5 washes. When this happened I would just select "quick wash" on the control panel and generally it would sort itself out. Tonight, it really quit. If I try to start a wash cycle, some water runs into the washer, but the drum doesn't turn. The water drains immediately and then the washer finishes thee cycle, indicating "Ready" on the front panel.

Bosch washing machine diagram - .Pdf

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

    I'm not seeing the pdf

Note, I found an exploded diagram on the bosch site -- there is no coupler and the motor turns when I spin the drum. Will ee if I can reconnect chat.

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

Can't reconnect. This did not solve my problem; diagnosis was failed coupler, exploded diagram/parts list on Bosch site shows no coupler.

it looks like the part you are referring to is called a coupler it is a 3 piece 1 metal and 2 plastic parts

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

I don't see a coupler in the PDF. For email, send to r-n-d @ (Remove spaces)

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

Also, as I said above, rotating the drum rotates the motor. they seem connected.

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

After leaving the washer powered off for two hours, I tried to run a cycle and now the washer fills and agitates. This seems less and less like a mechanical problem.

ok here is the things to check than
    Lid switch
If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
    Motor coupler
Many washers produced by Whirlpool® use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it.
Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)
your washer may use a clutch for agitating the clothes. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.
    Drive motor
Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.
    Drive pulleys
The motor or transmission drive pulley may be worn and unable to turn the drive belt. If so, replace the pulley.
The transmission could have either of these problems:
yours may have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may not agitate properly or at all.
The transmission may have a worn or broken gear, or some other internal problem.
The inside of the agitator--where the transmission shaft attaches--can become worn, and strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. Then the transmission shaft rotates back and forth as it should, but the agitator doesn't move properly. If this happens, you may need to replace the agitator and/or the transmission spline.

and you may have a timer that is going out as well this would be the easy fix

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

This is a Bosch frontloader. Only some of the above is relevant.

    Door switch - I'll check.

    There is no motor coupler.

    Belt is fine

    No clutch

I have observed the motor reversing direction under power.

    There is no transmission.

    There is no agitator

  • r_n_d Oct 06, 2010

There is no mechanical timer, only an electronic control board. I figured out how to access this without moving the washer. I found a schematic tucked in behind this. I will remove the control board from its housing and look for burnt components. The schematic indicates ohm readings for most solenoids and sensors, which I can check after removing power.

Bosch model 3301

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too. The exit hose should be at about 3 feet from ground level; pump pumps out over this height.
