How to replace motor brushes? I only can take the small springs after unscrewing the caps on both sides. The carbon brushes are still inside? Tell me how to take them out and just put new brushes with...

I believe the brushes and the spring are one piece, so the brush should come out with the spring. Either the brushes are so worn that you just aren't noticing the little bit that's left, or the block has come loose from the spring. You can tip the machine over so the brush hole is facing down and let gravity do the work. If there's any brush left inside, it should slide out. Otherwise just install the new brushes.

I need new brushes for Powermate Air Compressor motor. Where can I purchase them or do I need to have a Technician install? Model #CL0551109 Thank You J.L. Brooks

Brushes are not listed as a replacement part for your compressor. Not to worry because universal brushes are available at tool repair shops, hardware stores and ebay. Measure your brush and order same size or slightly larger and sand to fit. Dont worry too much about the length of brush as they can be shorter than factory and still work fine (just longer than worn brushes). Some motors have a spring pushing brush onto armature and others utilize the spring attached to brush to make contact. You can cut off wire from back of brush if needed, however if your motor needs brushes with spring attached, find close match and solder your old contact and spring to new brush. Also check for other problems because brushes should last the life of motor on your unit. Good luck

How do I change brushes in a cutoff saw? I am not sure exactly how the new brushes are inserted with the locking screws. Do U just insert brushes and compress spring with screw on plastic lock nut?

Yes. That's all there is to it. Just insert the new brush, making sure there are no pieces of the old brush still in the holder, compress the spring and install the plastic cap.

I have just replaced the brushes on my washing machine but no the drum isnts spinning when a cycle is put on.

You havn't given any information on the brand or a model or why you changed brushes or anything so you could have 1 of about a million different machines out there..Il take a shot anyway. You may have left off wires going to brushes or forgotten to plug a wireing harness in. or my favourite one, you put the brushes in but forgot to release them so they can spring out onto the motor.some brushes are held back inside there caseing to make it easy to install without them springing out.once there in you must release the carbon brush so it can make contact with motor armature.

Seating the brushes on the Kitchenaid ksm90 mixer

You don't need to seat the brushes. Remove the brush caps and pull the brushes out by their springs, being VERY careful to note the position of them since they only go back in one way. Measure the free length of the spring before pulling it out. It is critical that you write down the length sticking out with very slight pressure on it so that it is seated against the armature when you measure.

Clean the curved surface of the carbon brushes with a sharp knife being careful not to scratch the curved surface. If you have them installed wrong they will not go all the way in and will not contact the armature and it will not run. Measure the length, as done above, of the spring to make sure it is in correctly!! If it is not in correctly the spring will stick out 1/4 inch longer than it should.

Trying to replace carbon brushes on Kitchenaid stand mixer. I understand from reading other answers that there is a ''right way'' to insert them. I did not pay close enough attention in removing old ones...

Check the brushes. They get caked up with burned flour. Remove the brush caps and pull the brushes out by their springs, being VERY careful to note the position of them since they only go back in one way. Measure the free length of the spring before pulling it out. It is critical that you write down the length sticking out with very slight pressure on it so that it is seated against the armature when you measure.

Keep turning the brush until you have the shortest amount of spring sticking out when you press it in all the way then slowly release pressure on the end of the spring. You will know when it is in correctly since the difference in length is noticable. The curvature on the front of the brush must line up with the curved surface of the armature which runs from the front of the mixer to the rear.

How to install carbon brush

You have to open the case. First remove the transparent plastic on the side then you will see screws on the bottom part of the transparent plastic. Unscrew them and from there you will open the machine. Remove the rexair cover and unscrew the screw that attaches to the 2 carbon brush. When you remove the carbon brush you will see a spring and the copper wire at the end of the brush. remove it and put the new copper wire from the new carbon brush to the contact passing thru the middle of the spring. Then screw it back tightly.
