Question about Canon Elura 80 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

My Canon Elura 80, digital camcorder, has been acting up for the past year. First, it went through a period where it refused to eject the tape. In this, I mean I could open the side panel, but it would not slide up and pop the miniDV tape. I had to turn it upside down to get it to get the camcorder to move upwards and eject. Second, the above turning the camcorder upside down didn't work. So, I resorted to moving the off - on button up and down. Generally, this resulted in the dinging sound, but it became aggravating for the camera to sit there and not eject the tape. Third, it finally ejected the tape, but it is now stuck in a semi-open stance. It ejected the tape, but it did not elevate as it normally would before ejecting the tape. So, at the present, I can't find anyone in this neck of the woods to repair camcorder. I have tapes which need to be viewed by the family, etc. I have been using the camcorder for several years to tape school functions, church gatherings and Christmas specials, as well as Clemson Tiger football games. Now, I can't do diddly.

Tape mechanism problems are quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

Tape won't load. I just ejected it and it won't reload.

Try unplugging your camcorder from any type of power source. Leave it unplugged for about 10 minutes and try again (this will act like a reset button, which your camcorder doesn't seem to have one). If this does not work, you will need to have the camcorder repaired by an experience technician. There are lots of components inside the mechanism that could go bad or get damaged. Hope this helps you.

I have a Canon Elura 65 mini DV camcorder. When I

I had this problem and I only ejected a cassette. I tried new and old cassettes. Same result as you experienced.
What I did and I again don't condone striking electronics as a means to repair them but, at the advice of another post and having tried everything I could think of, I stuck the bottom of the camcorder with the palm of my hand several times and it worked. I don't know why it worked and it really shouldn't have but it did.
I think the real problem is a cleaning/lubrication and ultimately should see service by a local trusted shop. Try it I had nothing to lose and it worked for me.....

I have an Elura 90. The cassette door opens but

When ejecting the tape you must hold the eject switch down for a full second. There are two stages to the eject process just as there are with the insertion of a videocassette. Hold the button in position long enough to hear the motor mechanism start.

Canon Elura 65 Camcorder Refuses to Load Mini DV Tape

Try a different tape in case the take up isn't working in the previous tape.

Clean the tape heads with a tape cleaner in case there is buildup on the pinch rollers causing the tape to jam or slip.

If those solutions don't work, you should take it into a repair shop to have a closeup view as to what the problem is unless you see something obvious like a spring broken or loose or a bent piece or foriegn objects in the deck.

Canon Elura 100 Power Dead

Just an update.
I sent it back to the factory - and they fixed the power unit.
However, they told me that now my Memory card and memory card operations will not work.
They did not charge me for it - they took it under warranty.
Everything else seems to be working.

Take the camcorder to an authorised service center. They will have to open the camera up and have to manualy operate the mechanics to have an ejection of the tape. Most likely there is a failure in the camera that will have to be maintenenaced.

Record button doesn't function

You may want to check the record lockout safety switch located on the tape. This button can get moved by accident and the camera will refuse to record on that tape. Also, be sure the camera is in "video" mode, not "photo" mode. Some of Canons camcorders have a digital still camera mode which stops the camcorder from functioning because the photos are being recorded to a memory card and not your tape, please check this swithc as well.
