Question about Sony PFM-42B1 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
There are six small (50mm x 50mm x 10mm) thermally-triggered ventilation fans inside the unit. in time the bearings in these fans wear out (prematurely?) and cause an annoying whine; was told by service person at first replacement that premature bearing failure is result of mounting orientation. whine can drive dogs crazy when sound signal muted. people too. hopefully relatively easy to replace fans if careful; will soon find out when new fan ordered arrive. replacement cost from Sony for fans is almost $50 each as of 6/1/2008
