SOURCE: factory settings

I think with the L40 it should have a recovery partition, It depends on whether the last owner overwrote it or not, if he was stupid enough to leave his details on there then probably not.

If when you turn on the machine, hold the 0 key(zero), a HDD utility should appear prompting you if you want to overwrite data. Follow the instructions and it should go back to factory defaults.

(if zero isn't the correct key, its likely to be one of the higher F keys ie F8, F9 etc.)

Is there a way to restore factory settings (out of the box settings) for the Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062?

Hi blackrose696. There's 2 ways. 1.- If you go to My Computer and see a partition (probably D:) called recovery, go to Start - All Programs - and see if you see under Toshiba - something called recovery or restore (you WILL loose ALL your data) and follow the instruction. If you DO see the partition but you dont see anything under Toshiba folder, then restart the computer and inmediately you will see something like Press F10 or F12 to boot from recovery partition.
If you dont see the recovery partition. The only way is using the Restore CDs... if you dont have those you have to order them from the Toshiba website. (they cost like $15) so that way you are sure you get the license and the drivers correctly. I hope this helps. Please do not forget to rate and provide positive feedback from our support today. Thank you :D

HOW DO I RESTORE TO FACTORY WITHOUT DISK

You need to have the recovery disks (2 disks) so that you can do that since the OS needs to be reloaded including the original programs and drivers, from the second disk. The first one is for erasing your HDD's contents. You need to check if you have the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program. If you do, that means your HDD has a hidden partition and you are able to create your own recovery disks. Hope this helps. Thank you.

Factory restore

On a laptop there is no factory setting reset option (unless you mean bios reset ). To get the laptop back to the initial 'as new' condition you need to re-install the system using the recovery disk on startup. Put recovery cd 1 inside laptop cd drive and restart the computer. Follow instructions for complete restore.
If you do complete restore you can lose all your data.
