Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Neptune gas dryer (MDG5500). The dryer overall seems to be working fine, but there is NO heat (Just a very recent problem). I have removed the front access panel but I am unsure exactly what to look for inside. Though, I do not see any flame or glow when I turn on the dyrer What do I look for to begin to isolate the issue? and to determine what needs to be replaced? Thanks for the help

Why is the control panel warm when not running on the mdg5500?

If there are no issues of fault on the dryer then there is no immediate concern but the warm board can be because the power supply is on and the regulator and supply components are heating up.
If there is no malfunction and it is only warm, then ignore the whole issue.

Maytag Gas Dryer, heats for a few minutes, then flame goes out

Service Manual for Dryer similar to yours will cover disassembly and troubleshooting:

MDG5500

It's likely one of the coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The number for the coil kit, which will replace ALL the coils, for your machine is 12001349

Service on gas appliances should be undertaken by professionals only due to the danger of gas leakage which can cause fires, explosion or death by asphyxiation.

Dryer heats randomly..Igniter is working.

Generally operation when cold that worsens with use indicates a component that is failing when hot. Start at the burner with the coils and work your way back to relays on the control. Sounds a lot like a bad coil on the burner. I have seen these do 2 complete loads then fail. Setting over night and cooling off will work again the same way. Intermittent conditions are a real challenge sometimes.
