I think I had the same problem as you. Mine worked completely fine for quite some time. The light for the bucket being full, or out wouldn't come on, and it didn't seem to react to anything I did. I took it apart and unplugged the adjustment knob, and it worked. Just need to put a new one in (part 6601a30006a) or it will just continue to run as if the humidity is always too high for the setting.

I'd be the first to tell everyone, I got lucky repairing my machine! Everything I have read about the GHD30 has not been all that great, but the one thing I believe is primary of importance is cleaning the filter, and cleaning the inside at a minimum of once a month, or sooner. If the filter is clogged the machine suffocates itself. Furthermore since the product is made of plastic be very careful on removing different plastic parts. As they age they become brittle and break very easy! The discovery of the float part being cracked in my case was a stroke of luck. When you clean the machine check all these moving plastic parts, some of the problems could be related. I hope this helps someone, everyone can use a little help in this tough economy!

Mine did the same thing, I just clipped one of the wires to the rotary knob and it runs fine, but will run non-stop. I've orderd the part you referenced above - only $7.50

There are basically two moving parts, the fan and the compressor. It more then likely is the fan. Be sure the air path is clean and the fan blade does not hit anything. If it is the compressor I would suggest getting a new unit and using that one elsewhere for the short time it has left.

My dehumidifier is no longer making any noise and is not extracting water. The lights still come on, and when I first plug it in it starts to work for about twenty seconds and then quits. Is this fixable?

It sounds like the bearings in the motor are worn out, especially as you said it quits running at times. You should be safe in just replacing the fan motor, but check the fan blade to make sure it isn't out of balance for any reason(dirty, missing a balance weight, or bent). Hope I was of assistence!

After about 5 minutes the unit stops working. No sound or even a fan noise. I just cleaned the filter to see if that helps, but it didn't.

Is the fan running and stopping before the unit completely quits?
If the fan quits the compressor won't run very long.
I would start with the fan motor or capacitor.
Shut the power off to the unit, spin the blower wheel to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.
