Problem has a red light and it says paper out but it has paper in the button.

From memory I think there is an option to calibrate the Paper Out Sensor, in the Tech Access Menu,
Press the LINE FEED and ENTER buttons for five seconds until the printer flashes up TECH ACCESS on
Then access the menus as described below.
  1. Press the MENU button
  2. Press the DOWN ARROW button until the display reads TEST MENU
  3. Press the DOWN ARROW button until the display reads DIAG
  4. Press ENTER
  5. Press the DOWN ARROW until the display reads CAL-PAPER
  6. Press ENTER
  7. Press the DOWN ARROW until the display reads CALL PAPER PAPER OUT
  8. Press the ENTER button
  9. Follow the Onscreen Instructions
If the above is not in your printer menu look for a PAPER OUT THRESHOLD option (PAPTHR)? Increase this value.

The TECH ACCESS menu should have a METER function which will show voltage change readings for the PAPER OUT Sensor, enter the Meter Mode and select the PAPER OUT option and insert and remove paper to ensure there is at least a 3 volt voltage swing from paper in to paper out.
If you get voltage swing but not 3 Volt adjust the paper out sensor position to see if you can improve this reading.
If there is no voltage swing its likely the paper sensor is faulty.

The deskjet 5650 has a flashing yellow downward arrow. What dies this mean?

Did you or one of your users have a paper jam recently and force the jam out of the printer? Because we've had a few 5650's do this after a jam. About 66% of the time this fixed it...Removing the ink, unplugging the printer, moving the print head to the half way point, and starting the printer.

When paper is fitted in, error message says paper out

If the printer is displaying the paper out message on the display this may be because the Paper Sensor needs to be calibrated for the type of paper being used in the printer. The Paper Sensor on the T6218 is an optical sensor that reflects light off the back of the paper, different coloured paper or different paper finish may mean the paper sensor needs to be recalibrated.

The T6218 has a facility to calibrate the paper out sensor. This option is within the Technical Access Menu.
To access the technical access menu put the T6218 offline then press and hold down the LINE FEED and ENTER BUTTONS both at the same time, and keep the buttons held down for approximately 5-6 seconds until TECHNICAL ACCESS ON flashes up on the display.
Once Technical Access had been enabled the Paper Out Sensor routine can be accessed via the menu on the printer.

1. With the printer OFFLINE , press the MENU button
2. Press the DOWN ARROW to TEST, press ENTER
3. Press the DOWN ARROW to DIAG, press ENTER
4. Press the DOWN ARROW until CALIBRATION is displayed, press ENTER
5. Press the DOWN ARROW until PAPER OUT is displayed, press ENTER
6. Follow the instructions on the display which will advise to remove the paper, then reinsert the paper. Once this has been carried out this should calibrate the paper out sensor.

If you are unable to access the Menu on the printer because the printer is displaying the Paper Out Message, you can turn on the FAULT OVERIDE by
pressing and holding down FORM FEED and ENTER, until the printer displays FAULT OVER RIDE ON after you have enabled the TECHNICAL ACCESS menu, this will then let you calibrate paper out sensor.

If calibrating the paper out sensor does not resolve the issue there may be a fault with the paper out sensor, a connectivity problem or a logic problem.

Computer sees the printer, but the yellow arrow on the printer flashes but will not feed paper when pressed. persists even when printer is shut off and restarted

You may not have enough paper in the tray or it isn't positioned so that the feed rollers can pick it up. (Sometimes humidity changes can give the same effect.) Also check for paper jams.

In case you have a document stuck in the printer's memory, you should unplug the printer and the USB cable from both the printer and the computer.

I hope this helps,

After I ran out of paper the machine will not restart

Did you press the paper feed/resume button? It will not restart by itself.

Three yellow flashes then one green. Printer will not print. Says "check to see if plugged into computer and on." Sometimes says "paper jam" (no jam viseable.

Three flashes says that there is still paper or paper scrap inside. Might be a small scrap, hard to see, or sensor arm damaged when earlier jam removed.

Paper jammed. pulled out. now yellow light flashes. runs, but no print

check the paper path, specially where the paper is being pickup. it might still have a small peice of paper stuck in the path. pull out the paper tray. can check the paper path in the front of the printer.
use a flash light if you can not see inside.
unplug it printer after you finished. wait 10 sec and plug it back in. that will clear the printer of any remaining print job, and rest the printer.

if this solve your problem, please rate the answer.
thank you
