Question about Panasonic CX-DP880 8-Disc CD Changer

Panasonic CX-DP880, will not load disk. disk tray jams, new unit

I have installed the CQ-8100U head unit on a 05 dodge ramand now about after year I am ready to install the CX-DP880 cd changer.

Question i have is the 12v continu power supply for the cd changer. Then manual says to connect to a continuous 12v supply, which I take as the battery (this is the yellow wire from the changer). Now on the cable that hooks to the head unit this power supply wire is only 12" long from the point to connect to the head unit. How do i connect to the battery if I only have 12" of wire.
I think i am missing something, maybe this wire connects to the head unit somehow, or maybe to a hot wire off the wire harness from the ram?
Comment by ubootwo, posted on May 01, 2008 Solution is to splice the yellow 12v supply from head unit and attach yellow from changer to it. note to remove battery cable as this is a continuous hot lead. Comment by ubootwo, posted on May 27, 2008 Now I got a new problem!, everything wired up correctly, disk tray was locked in and would not come out. I got it out but now all it says is error# 3 on dash unit.

Keep in mind was never used, brand spankin new.

Sounds like it may want to pick up disk but does not, keeps trying then shuts down.

Any tips?

Ok, I have already done the above, no help.
    What has happend is this:
When i first got the unit the tray was not in the box loked in, so i did push it in. now thinking maybe i needed to have power to it to eject the tray i went ahead and wired everything up. then after all that it still would not eject. I was able to jimmy it so it would eject, so i thought ok, so i put in some cd's thinkin im good to go. but it now sounded like it wanted to pick up a disk and work but just made clicking noise and shuts down with an error 3 code. the reset does not help as well.

Sorry I am not all that savy with this FIXya board yet.

but anyhow, i am past the wiring stage, my problem is the tray will not eject, then i can get it to eject by prying a tad on the aide of the tray. once i got it out i put in cd's and it will click a few times then shut down and give a error code3.

I suspect there is some type of miss alignment somewhere, but not sure.

sorry, should have said i already tried unhooking the batt cable, turn key back in forth. no progress.

  • ubootwo Jun 03, 2008

yes i have made sure it was selected to mounted vert, there is screw slot to posit it vert or horiz, i have removed it from mounting tried vert, tried horiz.

  • ubootwo Jun 03, 2008

my thought is that the unit is somehow miss-aligned or jammed.
the thing sounds like it wants to pick up a disk but just makes a few clicks then shuts down and gives the error.

I have had the unit completely un-cased to ss if there is something i can see that would cause the problem but i could not see anything.

i could take pics of the thing later and foward them to you but not sure you do that.

I think maybe the worm gear has somehow miss-guided the disk selector mechanisam. im am not sure how to get it back aligned if this is the case.

  • ubootwo Jun 03, 2008

yes i loaded 8 cd's in the cd tray.

  • ubootwo Jun 03, 2008

and... they are in the correct oreintation

  • ubootwo Jun 03, 2008

Any other ideas? Nothing has worked yet!

Alright, it looks like you copied and pasted something and your first questions about the 12v wire not being long enough was answered and you just needed to splice the wire and add another wire to it which is correct but do it with the battery disconnected.

the error 3 is a jammed error, try resetting it by first removing the battery and if that doesn't work then try turning the key in the ignition back and forth quickly 10 times to reset the truck.

Let me know how this goes, also is the changer trying to open on its own (whirring of gears) or was it not doing anything?

Please update me after doing the above suggestions and let me know where we are at with this problem.

good luck

if you want to, take a few pictures of the problem areas that could be misaligned and send them to bestdarntootingood@yahoo.com and I will take a look. The good thing is that it is trying to open.

So get me the best you can and I will see whats up

the tray is moving back and forth on it's track correctly?

try pulling the tray in and out a few times and look for misalignment and make sure that it is riding correctly. Also move the laser back and forth a little, and also try turning separate gears to make sure everything is moving freely. Let me know how this goes

Though the cable is just 12" long ,just connect it by using extension box where we get options for plugging

the yellow wire can connect directly to the battery, or connect it on the terminal / load switch which you can see other connections that has fuse.. or you can jumper / connect it on your CQ-8100U head unit line out to the battery.

    - check again the harizontal / vertical you installed, its possible that there was a problem on the mounting of the unit..

    micromaster Jun 03, 2008

the best thing you can is remove the unit from the its mounted position..

I WANT CHANGER MY PANASONIC CD CHANGER WITHOUGHT REWIRING .

I would like to advise that it would be better for you to update to a universal type adapter that can be easily fitted to your Player. This adapter would be able to play from memory sticks, usb memory or even your Ipod and that means all your MP3 can be easily stored and carried over. The DVD changer is compatible. However I hope you will decide with my advice and check for the models available in your city. So go with the times. Good day

Jammed CD & Magazine in an Alpine CHA-S634

Mine jammed after I dropped it, trying to swap it into a new car :-)
Same problem, however. Three of the six CD trays had wandered into the righthand mechanism (which selects and plays one cd at a time). Nothing else at all, most fortunately, was broken.
I removed the cover (3 screws on each side), and the small black faceplate that holds the eject button. The main faceplate came off too, needless to say; no screws, just tabs.
You have to remove the side brackets also, and the angle-adjust spring loaded pins on both sides need to be slid out. Then the body of the cd changer rotates out of its cover.
Now, you can see down into the mechanism. A CD was still stuck in the reader, along with several shifted trays. I could simply remove the CD, and with a small screwdriver, shifted the trays back over so that I could then successfully eject it. I removed and realigned the trays, which had been jammed, and it worked once more! Reassembled and reinstalled ;-)

Panasonic CD Changer with Pioneer reciever

Panasonic CD changers have a specific plug in that will not work with the Pioneer head unit. The Pioneer uses the IP-BUS plug. You will also not be able to convert the unit to work because the data between the two cannot be controlled and you won't have the ability to use the units together.
