Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I replaced a HDD in friends Gateway 610 and carefully reassembled it and now there is no audio. I've opened the computer a half dozen time connecting all wires but notice that one audio connection from the Big Speaker attached to the Stand doesn't have any wires to connect to it. How can I get pictures of the wiring for the Gateway 610? Thank you Jim

First I’m a Novell CNE and a MCSE with a Computer Science degree and Electronics degree from Michigan State and have built about 2000 computers and servers since 1985 ( My point being …I’m not a novice!!) . I took this computer to fix thinking it was the typical box computer not knowing it was a proprietary system. I've never opened a gateway 610 before and was very careful about wiring etc. Drivers are not the issue as I've installed them and in the Device Manager all systems look ok! It's a wiring problem. What I need is the cable schematics for the 610 so I can be assured the audio cables are connected correctly. I’ve done continuity test on the cables and they’re ok! I’m not sure what you can do for me, as I assumed you’d have access to manuals and schematics I wouldn’t have the ability to get! There is one connection a “7 Pin” protruding from the Speaker box that doesn’t seem to have any corresponding cable to connect to! There are four connections for cables but only three are connected the other this 7 Pin hasn’t a cable to connect to! I hope this makes sense and I could send pictures of what I’m encountering. Help is appreciated!

Do you mean to say you have disconnected the audio cable of the speaker from the back of the computer? Please clarify this so that I can help you solve this problem.

Hi

You did install the sound card drivers right?
Sound will not work without sound card drivers. Which version of windows does it have installed?

Lets leave the wires for now.

NV55C Gateway Lap Top cannot connect to wireless router

Does your WiFi work on the laptop work in another place... Starbucks for example? If so, then there is a software security issue with the router, you will need to call the ISP for adjust the settings. If you PC doesn't work with wifi at Starbucks then you have a software issue with your laptop. Go to MY Computer, Hardware/Devices and look for any yellow marks. There will probably be one where the wifi is located. (Expand all the devices by clicking on the plus "+ signs. Find the wifi modem, there are many mfrs; Broadcom and Atheros are two ones. Go into the submenus and driver update too and write everything down you find. The most important things are the description, model number, software version and version date. Navigate to the hardware mfrs site and download and install the newest drivers for the wifi modem. Re-boot and try again to establish a connection.

My HP 610 laptop's inbuild speaker is not working, but with the external speaker it is working.I want to know the price of HP compaq 610 inbuild speaker.

Try the following steps:
Open your laptop carefully (look out for fragile ribbon cables) !
Check for a broken wire going to the internal speaker.
Check for a faulty contact at the audio output jack (these things have a contact which disconnects the internal speaker when a plug is connected).
Temporarily connect any speaker in the place of the internal speaker.
If the problem is still the internal speaker, remove it and go to any good audio components shop and buy an equivalent speaker.
Hope this helps.

Hard disk drives are not generally that prone to failure unless they have been used for two or three years or your computer is switched on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Before you even try to recover your data, you need to make sure your computer is not causing the problem. Are you connecting the HDD directly with a SATA or PATA cable, or is it connected via a USB cable?
I would try the HDD on another computer first (if you have one or you have a friend who will let you use their computer). If the drive still cannot be read on another PC then you will need to find a suitable data recovery program such as http://www.aidfile.com/ or Easeus data recovery http://www.easeus.com/ and see if you can recover your data from the drive. I would not use your current PC for this process, but use another PC (or a friend's PC) just in case your PC is faulty.
After you get your data recovered (if possible) , the HDDs which do not work on your PC should be formatted and tested on another PC to see if they are really faulty or if it is your PC which is causing the problem.

I have a gateway zx4800-03 and I need to know how to remove the hard drive to put in a new one

I removed one on a Gateway ZX4800-02. Remove two screws by the usb ports on the back. then remove the plastic piece covering the usb ports on the back. This will expose the HDD. Now to make it easier. remove the four screws holding the support bracket and remove support bracket. remove the three screws holding the HDD located up, right, and left. Now disconnect the HDD cable by pull it to the right by the connector. DO NOT PULL THE CABLES. My friend does that by habit all the time and it drives me crazy.

HDD should come out easy. Just remove the metal cage covering the HDD and Replace. Reverse order for reassembly.

Now does anyone know how to get off the damn front bezel!>!!?!?!?!? I can't figure it out.

Gateway MX6956 screen flashes when dc adapter plugged in...hard t

The jack is soldered to the mo bo. If that is the only thing wrong all you have to do is open up the unit carefully, get access to the mo bo, resolder it and reassemble everything. A real PIA job but do able. Good luck
