Question about Medion Computers & Internet

1 Answer

The cooling fan on my Medion 98200 laptop is continually running and the laptop is very hot. I have done a factory reload to ensure that there is no software causing the problem and it is still very hot. Any ideas ? Nigel Hall

Thanks for your help, but there does not appear to be a Bios update for this machine on the Medion website.

It is hot. And the harddrive was recently put back in the computer . What does that mean. Thera gota b a crash code to just redo everything. Its a hp laptop. Windows 8.1 which i officialy hate

The title says HP laptops. It is a laptop or a desktop PC? You said it was hot. Heat is the enemy of all electronics. Resetting won't solve anything until you figure out why the unit is getting hot. Laptops, contrary to their name, should never be held on your lap. They need airflow which is pulled in from fans on the bottom. Operating them on your lap, on a bed, on a sofa, or on any soft surface blocks the airflow and causes heating. Also, fabric surfaces introduce dirt, hair, and lint into the cooling system which can clog the heat exchanger and cause overheating. Have the laptop checked to ensure the cooling fans are running and that there is proper airflow. Clean the cooling system if necessary. If this is a desktop PC, there are similar issues. Many people place tower units in computer desks that have doors on them and operate them behind the closed door. This causes poor airflow. They also place them on floors and they will suck up lots of dust and dirt that will clog the cooling fins of the CPU hear exchanger. Check the CPU fan and heatsink and ensure that the cooling fins are not clogged. DO NOT remove the heatsink to clean it. Get a can of Electronics duster (canned air. Use this to blow the dist and dirt out of the clogged fins. Once you have the heat issue fixed, then worry about the reload/reset. Yes, if the machine came installed with Win 8.1, it probably has a recovery partition you can use to restore the PC to factory settings.

Medion MD 98200 My laptop will not turn on after my son removed the battery pack accidentally

Turn on the laptop without the battery, using only the AC adapter. If doesn't work remove the AC Adapter and battery. Hold down the power button for 30-45 seconds then plugged in the AC Adapter and put battery back in then [on]

I've a Medion Akoya, it keeps running hot till it freezes

What happens if you just use the power cord without the battery being in the laptop?

Three things that will cause a laptop to overheat:

1) Dust - Dust inside the laptop, dust clogging the vents and fans, dust around the cpu and heatsink. Remedy - take the laptop apart and blow out the dust with a can of compressed air.

2) A Fan not working - Remedy- Replace the fan.

3) The Thermal Paste on the cpu and heatsink has either dried up or is too thin to keep the unit cool. Remedy - Apply a fresh coat of Thermal Paste to the CPU and Heat Sink.

You could try a Laptop Cooling Pad which has fans on it and the laptop sits on it to keep cool. It plugs into the laptops usb port. Try Tiger Direct at:

When the site comes up just type: Laptop Cooling Pad in the white search box at the top of the website then press GO. Sort the returned results by Price Low to High

Below is a link to one I use most times for people experiencing overheating issues but can't afford the expense of going inside the laptop. $12.99

I Have a Medion touch screen, and my fan is running contantly

Buy a can of compressed air, attach straw, give the cooling fan a few good blasts and the open ports, if no change, laptop must be dismantled down to the motherboard level for a good cleaning and the thermal paste re-done after a good cleaning, I recommend a pro for this type of job.

Overheats and freezes

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed-air.
Give the computer a "blow-job", because dust inside the computer is working as a layer of insulation, i.e., not allowing your computer's fans to cool itself.

Laptop getting unusually hot in operation

Re: "the FAN runs only when the booting is being done.but it stops as soon as the booting is completed".

That would be normal, as the variable speed fan comes on only when the computer is under load.

What is not normal is that the fan is not coming on when the computer overheats.Or that the fan is not cooling enough when computer is overheating.

Monitor computer temperature using a software, check if Fan is coming up when temperature gets critical.

If fan comes up but does not cool enough, then replace the fan, it is not efficient anymore because of a bad bearing or dust. ~Also ensure that fan is well mounted, if fan has poor contact with CPU surface , cooling will be poor.

If fan does not come up, and critical temp is not detected, then the sensor on motherboard is bad, this is very uncommon.

If fan does not come up and temp is critical, then fan is faulty, replace it.

There are also more than one fan on many laptops, check that one of the fans (CPU fan, video fan) is not completely ded, and therefore cause for the problem.

Here is the software to control your fan and temp state:

Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Download SpeedFan 4.38
