Question about Computers & Internet

I have been trying to put the free version of 'malwarebytes anti-malware on a virus infected computer. after downloading on a clean netbook i put it on a scandisk but i can't open it. it says copy or shortcut. the download is not a shortcut because i can open it and do a quick scan. how do i get the image on the scan disk to go on the computer? i was told to copy the file to the usb disk, right click on the downloaded file "mbam-setup-1.46.exe" and select copy from the menu. then browse and open theusb drive under 'my computer' and 'paste the file by right clicking and and selecting paste option. I did not see 'mbam-set-up-1.46.exe" but i tried to copy 'malwarebytes.it saysshortcut or copy. can you help me.

Hi,

If you want to clean up your pc of viruses, Trend Micro's free online virus scanner 'Housecall' is a good way to do it.

If you want to find the serial number of your Windows installation so you can reinstall, download the 'Magic Jellybean Keyfinder' - it works well.

Remove most viruses with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

At one or another, most of us encounter a virus. Most times it can be easily removed for free. All it takes is a little time and a free program called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This program can be downloaded from <http://www.malwarebytes.org/>.

If you have access to the internet on the infected computer, just download and install the program. If you cannot access the internet, don't worry. You can download the program on another computer to a flash drive or CD.
Install the program and save a shortcut to your desktop. Open the program and update it. Again, if you have no internet access you can still update the program following these simple steps.

1. Install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on another computer.
2. Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
3. Navigate to the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware install folder.
4. Copy the rules.ref file to your flash drive. (if you can't find the file just use your operating system's search tool)
5. Replace the rules.ref file on the infected computer with the one on your flash drive.

Now you need to start your computer in safe mode. Restart your computer and follow these steps:
1. Hit the F8 key repeatedly until a screen with several options appears.
2. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the selection Safe Mode and hit enter.
3. Allow the computer to boot.
4. Log in if prompted.
5. Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from the shortcut you saved to your desktop earlier.
6. Select Perform full scan.
7. Make sure you select the C:\ drive and any other hard drives that may be infected.
8. Wait for the scan to finish (this may take a long time).
9. When the scan is complete, restart your computer.
10. Celebrate! You just successfully removed a virus!

My Eee netbook has a virus how do i remove them?

Boot into safe mode (press F8 repeatedly when starting the computer), select safe mode with networking, download, then install an anti-malware software and run it. If you can't download the software on the infected computer, download it onto another computer, then transfer it to the infected computer using a flash drive, but still use safe mode. You'll want to also scan the flash drive before using it on another computer, just to make sure the virus didn't get transfered to the flash drive.

My mini netbook has virus and it is not letting me to open anything. i have macafee on it, but still unable to do perform anything. How i can remove the virus from netbook? OR how can i restore it to...

Be sure your firewall is activated. You can chose to use the windows firewall pre-installed on your Netbook or you can activate the firewall in you anti-virus package.
Run a cleaning software designed for detecting spyware on a regular basis to maintain Netbook processing speed and to remove items picked up by your Netbook while surfing the web. CCleaner is a solid free version of spyware cleaner.
If you suspect malware on your computer because it is running slowly, has strange pop ups or the anti-virus software detects it, then download software designed to find spyware and eliminate spyware. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, A-squared Free and SuperAntiSpywate Free are free versions of adware removal tool to consider. These tools get rid of spyware when used individually or in tandem. Continue to run the software until all spyware, viruses and malware are removed.

How To Use the Restore Factory Settings CD

2. Put the Restore Factory Settings CD into the CD drive. This CD was packaged with your computer.
3. Confirm you want to restore the factory settings. The computer will begin restoring all settings. Don't disturb your computer, as this process can take several hours. .
4. Reboot the computer to complete the process.

The best software available is called Malware Bytes. It is a smaller application that kills everything you don't want and is free. It can be downloaded from http://www.malwarebytes.org .
After downloading and installing, update the definitions file if not prompted to do so right away. After a full scan, you will have to reboot. Upon rebooting, run the scan again to insure every piece of malware has been removed. Works everytime.

You didn't say what virus the computer is infected with so it is kind of hard to name a specific solution to the problem. However here is something generic that might help out.

It sounds as if you may have picked up a virus which has disabled your anti-virus program. There are quite a few out there that will do this. Try going to Malwarebytes.com and down loading Malwarebytes Anti-virus. If you can't do it from the infected computer, find another computer and download it to a flash drive then install it. The definition files may be a little out of date and, depending on how bad your computer is infected, you may not be able to update them immediately. Don't be concerned about that - just run the program and see what develops.

Avast is another free anti-malware program that is worth downloading. I have the Technician's version which runs from a bootable CD, but the free version works pretty well also.

Good luck - some of these things can be quite nasty to deal with.
