Encrypting the PC won't necessarily help you if you keep getting booted offline. Download and run a few free virus and spyware scanners. I'll post links to 2 that work fairly well and are free to boot :)

If Wireless Encryption Level is set toNo Encryption, this means that the wireless security on the gateway is disabled. If Wireless Encryption Level is set to 64 Bit Encryption or 128 Bit Encryption, check the value under Default Key and take note of the Wireless WEP Key that corresponds to it. I use a Motorola XTS 5000 2 way radio at work. It displays a message "Key Failure"' and intermittenly beeps. It will not allow transmissions. Can I program a fix or does it need to be repaired?

It needs to be looked by a programming technician in a radio shop. "Key Failure" means that a secure encryption key has not been loaded into the radio and you have set the switch for using encryption to the "on" position. This switch is located under the channel switch on top of the radio and in your case it should be set to the "O" position and not the "O" with the line through it. The XTS radios can be programmed to retain the encryption key when the battery is removed OR to keep the key even if the battery is removed, so it depends on how your radio was programmed as well.

I have my network open and i wish to put a password on it.. how do i do that?

Hi.
First, you need to access your router.
To do this, open a browser, and in the address bar type in: 192.168.1.1

This takes you inside the router's web access program.
From here you can change settings like security.

here as all the instructions for changing it.

  1. Type the following text in the user name and password fields: "admin".

  2. Go to the Basic Settings menu option tab on the top navigation bar and wait for the menu to appear.

  3. Click the Wireless Security menu option in the drop down menu.

  4. Click to select Enable Wireless Security.

  5. Click to select either WEP or WPA in the Network Authentication list.

If WEP is selected
  1. Select hexadecimal or ASCII characters as the Key Format. You can use either as a string of hexadecimal digits (characters 0 through 9 and A through F ) or as ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard).

  2. Select an encryption level from the Key Length list.

  3. Enter four different keys in the Key1, Key2, Key3, and Key4 fields to store on your router. For 40(64)-bit encryption, enter a 5-character (or 10 hexadecimal digits) WEP key. For 104(128)-bit encryption, enter a 13-character (or 26 hexadecimal digits) WEP key.

  4. Select only one key out of the four keys as the Default Key for encryption.

  5. Click the NEXT button, and then click Save and Restart to apply the changes.

  6. Set up WEP encryption on your wireless clients. Refer to the documentation that accompanied your wireless clients, or your wireless clients' on-line help systems, for information on how to set up WEP encryption.

If WPA is selected
  1. Enter your pre-shared key. This key must match the key that is used by each wireless client computer associated to your router.

  2. Choose a key format. This can be hexadecimal digits (0-9 and A-F) or ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard).

  3. WPA Group Rekey Interval specifies how often the key "rotates" or changes.

  4. WPA Encryption allows you to select one of two possible encryption methods-TKIP and AES. Choose one that your wireless clients support.

  5. Click the NEXT button, and then click Save and Restart to apply the changes.

  6. Set up the WPA on your wireless clients. Refer to the documentation that accompanied your wireless clients, or your wireless clients' on-line help system, for information on how to setup WPA.

I know it looks like a lot of information, but really it's not.
Just follow these steps and you're security eill be set up in no time, and then you can rest your fears about someone else using your network without your permission.

NOTE:

NEVER store the password in your computer, because in the event of an infection, that information could be stolen.

Write whatever your new password is down, and keep it safe somewhere. That way, if someone does want to use your network, they will have to ask you for it, and you will have it for them.

I hope this gets you going the way you want!

Try changing the memory card and then check. You might also need to format the internal memory of the camera in case it has been encrypted by your office.

Just purchased a PS3, along with Call of Duty 6, but I am having difficulty determining how to access the internet, which I have been told would allow me to play others on line.

If your using an ethernet cable ran to the back of the ps3 then goto network settings and choose automatic configuration and it should find everything for you.

if your using wireless you can choose manual config and choose wireless and scan for your wireless router. If the router doesnt use encryption just keep hitting the right arrow on dpad to choose all the default options and it should work. if your using wep or some kind of encryption then just enter that key when the encryption under the "Use Encryption" option and then just choose the rest as default options.

network settings is under SETTINGS ---> NETWORK SETTINGS

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. It will not hook up to our wireless connection. I can get on line wireless from another computer here . Can you help me get this computer back online?

Do you have a working wireless device in the computer? Can the computer see the wireless connection? Is the wireless connection encrypted? If the answer to all three of those questions is yes, then you need to get the encryption key from the access point. if question one is yes and question two is no, chances are the network connection broadcast name (or SSID) is hidden. You need to find that name and connect to it (SSIDs must be typed EXACTLY how its named--if its all caps, you have to type it all caps). Keep us posted.

Password in files

Well if you can save the file but are unsure how to store and keep the file on your pc and have it be safe I would recommend something called Folder Lock. I will provide you a link.

Link: http://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/

Summary:
  • On-the-fly 256-bit AES encryption (military standard) for data security.
  • Just as Lockers in physical world, different users can create their own Lockers. A single user can create multiple Lockers with different passwords as well. With Folder Lock, you can choose either to encrypt using 256-bit AES on-the-fly encryption or lock files, folders and drives anywhere on your computer. Each Locker can contain your encrypted files as well as your personal list of locked items.
