Hello there: The way you described the problem you have seem like the fridge is stuck on the defrost cycle and not coming back on the freezing cycle. Try the timer first and see how it goes. Hope this help.

SOURCE: Re: Refrigator will not stay cold

defrost problems are caused by 3 things
bad: 1) defrost timer/ timer board 2) defrost heater (in freezer) or burnt wire going to the heater 3) bi-metal thermostat (round metal piece attached to the coils with     at least 2 wires going to it)
a good technician can test components without the machine running. all you need is a simple $5 meter any tech that gets angry, show him/her the door!

SOURCE: side by side refrig. side not working;freezer freezing up

The unit is not defrosting. Either the defrost clock is defective or the defrost heater is not working. Defrost clock is normally located behind the bottom kick panel. Use a large standard screwdriver and turn the center screw clockwise very slowly until the compressor stops. Wait 20 to30 minutes the compressor should restart, if not the defrost clock is defective. Checking rhe heater you'll need a vom meter or amp meter.

SOURCE: side by side fridge , freezer will not defrost

It is most likely a defrost heater or termination thermostat. they are located behind the freezers back panel

Freezer is slowly getting warmer - water dispenser won't dispense (occasionally) turbo cool won't work

Open freezer door and look for any frost on the back wall inside the freezer. That would indicate a defrost problem.
Disconnect power to refrig. Unload freezer, Remove shelves and back panel inside freezer. Melt frost with a hair blower. Replace defrost heater located at the bottom of the heating coils. (Note: It may look different than the original, but insturctions enclosed with replacement cover that) Might as well replace the evaporator thermister at the same time, as your problem is about 98% of the time one or the other of those parts. The thermister is a white pencil shapped item, about an inch long, located cliped to the top of the cooling coils you just defrosted.
If you don't have the parts on hand, defrosting only will get your refrig working again for several days, while you obtain the parts.
Note: non-water dispensing is the result of the cold air from the freezer not being able to continue over the frost blocked coils, so it migrates back though the return air vent in the bottom of the refrig, resulting in a frozen water line, and often freezing in the bottom bin of the refrig.

Side by side Admiral freezer freezes but fridge

check the damper vent door between the refrige and freezer and make sure its opening up to let cold air from freezer into the refrige, sometimes they freeze up and cant open and close when called upon to do so,if so deice it with a hair dryer, the side being hot is good telling you the compressor is operating correctly

Older model fridge freezes on the refrig. side

check the damper door and see if its iced up this is between the refrige and freezer compartments and lets cold into refrige from freezer,if it ices up in the open condition the refrige control cant change the temp, defrost the door and then see if the control moves the door,if so also check the door seals to make sure they are sealing good so as not to let warm air in that can condense and freeze things like the damper door

After 1 or 2 weeks the refrigerator stops working, it freezes up. After defrosting, works perfect for 1 to 2 weeks again

Defrost heater bad, defrost thermostat bad or Defrost timer. Defrost heater and Thermostat can be continuity checked. Defrost thermostat can only be checked if at freezer temperature. Both should show continuity if good. If those two test good the process of elimination means it's the defrost timer. Always unplug refrig when performing these checks

Coils behind the freezer continue to "freeze up"

You have a problem in the defrost system There are three components: Defrost timer, defrost thermostst or terminator, and defrost heater. One of them has failed which is causing the evaporator to ice.

Jen-Air Refrigerator does not cool ---freezer works

you have a defrost problem, most common problem component for the jen air refrigerators is the defrost control board pt#61005988. until you change the board you will need to defrost your refrig  manually about once a week. the board is located in the control housing in the refrig compartment and is fairly easy to replace yourself.

Freezing in refrig and freezer.

call the tech back... the control board may be fauilty or install incorrectly.. the water leak is from a pluged drain hose or your ice maker leaking not from a control board...
