Question about Electrolux Guardian Bagged Canister Vacuum

I have replaced both bag and air filter on my vacuum and the light indicates that it needs to be changed and will not turn on. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance

Are you referring to the filter on the exhaust port, or the one under the tool caddy. If you haven't replaced the one under the tool caddy, open the cover of the caddy and look below the tools. You will be able to see the filter, and if it's dark gray or black, it needs to be replaced or removed.
Next, detach the hose and see if it will turn on without the hose. If it does, hold hand over intake to see if it shuts off. If not, a clog in the hose is likely. If it does shut off, or doesn't turn on with hose detached, it needs to be checked at the Aerus Electrolux service center near you. You could be looking at something as simple as a switch replacement, a more expensive hose replacement, or something more difficult inside the canister.
If you still have your sales agreement (pink), check the purchase date. This machine had a 25 year warranty if used with genuine bags, parts, and home use only.
If you no longer have the owner's manual, you can download one, with warranty information, from http://www.aerusvacuums.com/support/manuals/index.cfm. Go to "older models" at bottom of page, click on "down arrow", pick "Guardian (English, French and Spanish". Download to a folder you've created just for it and similar stuff for your Electrolux products. Warranty info is near the back.

What is the right bag for sebo x4


  1. First, pull out the hose, turn the unit on, check for an obstruction in the hose. (unclog and obstruction)
  2. Separate the body from power nozzle. Check for obstruction in the air hole passage.
  3. Pull and clean both filters in the unit. The inside white long carriage and the exhaust filter located above indicator panel. (nozzle body)
  4. If this is not working. think about where and how dirt is carried or passes from the front floor nozzle or through the hose.Somewhere in the unit the it is clogged. The red light censers a full bag (we know that's not the issue) or an obstruction to the normal air flow.

The vacuum won't turn on. plugged in, all lights flashing. no power


When switched on the vacuum goes through a self diagnosis test. Lights will come on for a while, then go out. If everything is okay, then the blue "Optimum" light will come on and stay on. If it turns of, a red indicator light should come on providing information on what's needed; i.e., filter or bag change needed.

Bag showing as full when a new bag is in and all hoses unblocked


Hi There,

So when this light is displaying, it's says "Bag Full or Clog" on the indicator. If you have changed the bag, and it's still showing this light, it means that you either have a clog in the vacuum, or your filters are dirty, which is reducing the suction and making the machine think that your bag is full. If your machine is actually cutting off, this indicates that your machine is definitely clogged, or something is stuck inside which is causing the motor to not get air flow, and cauing the machine to over heat. When it shuts off like this, it's a protection system that prevents any damage from happening to the motor when it can't breathe and starts to overheat.

My guess is that there is probably a clog in the machine somewhere, or the filters are dirty. Here's what you may do to diagnosis the machine, and try to isolate the clog to find out where it is in the vacuum.

Step 1. Remove the hose and wand assembly from the vacuum cleaner completely. You may do this by pressing the two tabs on the end of the hose that plugs into the vacuum cleaner:

With the hose and the wand removed from the vacuum, it should look like this:

Step 2. Now turn the vacuum cleaner on and check to see if the red light comes on while the hose and the wand have been removed. If the light comes on, then this indicates that your filter is dirty (or the PCB electric board is bad if the filter is clean) and needs to be replaced.

Step 2. Re-attach the hose and wand back on the vacuum, but just the end of the hose that goes into the vacuum cleaner, leave the wand out of the vacuum cleaner so it looks like this:

Turn the machine on now as if you were using the attachment hose to clean corners or above the floor and see if the red light comes on here. Also listen to the noise the motor makes and see if the noise changes when you put the hose back on the vacuum cleaner. If the red light appears, or if the motor makes a higher pitched noise now, then this indicates that you have a clog in your hose or wand. You may verify this by remove the hose again from the vacuum, and also removing the wand from the hose by pressing the hose release button on the wand and pulling the hose out of the wand. Look down both of the parts and see if you can see thru both sides. If you're not able to see light through the hose, or the wand, this indicates this is where the clog is. You may take a metal clothes hanger, and try removing the clog this way.

Step 3. If the red light did not display with the wand not inserted into the vacuum, put the wand back into the vacuum cleaner as if you were vacuuming the floors:

Turn the machine on, and see if the red light comes on in this position. If the light does come on, then this indicates that you have a clog in the bottom of the vacuum cleaner. To check and see the clog in the bottom of the machine, I find it easiest to remove the upper bag housing from the vacuum cleaner completely so you're just looking at the bottom power nozzle of the vacuum cleaner. There's a button at the bottom of the machine that is either a grey, or yellow color depending on what color your vacuum is. Simply press this button in, and lift upwards on the handle or the bag housing at the same time:

Step 4. After the bag housing has been removed, turn the lower part of the vacuum upside down so the brushes are facing upwards. There's a little orange flap on the bottom of the machine that is actually a clog port. Almost every time there is a clog in a Sebo, this is where I typically find the clog. Open up this orange colored trap door, and look to see if you can see any obstruction or clog underneath of here:

Step 5. You may rotate the neck of the power nozzle part towards you so that you may look inside to see if you see any obstructions inside:

Step 5. You may also remove the brushes from the vacuum and look behind the brushes at the suction port, or the area where the suction goes through the vacuum to see if you see anything obstructing the suction here.

These are really the only places that the Sebo can get clogged. If you checked all of these areas, and the red light is still displaying, this means that your PC Board that controls this indicator has gone bad, and needs to be replaced. If this is the case, please just reply to this repair using the comment field, and I'll be more then happy to help you through the replacement of replacing the PCB Board.

After we change the bag, it still gives us a red light


Greetings,

The bag full indicator on most vacuum cleaners is not completley fool proof. Most vacuums will just register a loss of suction, and they will then illuminate the bag full indicator, whether or not the bag is full.

If you've changed the bag, and the machine is still indicating a full bag, then this could mean one of two things.

1. Dirty Filter. According to the part diagram for your vacuum, there is a filter underneath of the vacuum cleaner bag (Bissell Part Number
203-1013) that is there to protect anything from getting into the motor. Since the filter is located before the motor, most refer to this as a pre-motor filter. Sometimes if this filter is really dirty, it can cause the vacuum to loose suction, which will also cause the bag full indicator to incorrectly display. Simply clean this filter by running it under warm water, then allow it to completely dry before replacing it in the vacuum. While the filter is out of the vacuum you can turn it back on and test to see if the light is off now that the filter is out. If the light goes off, then you have found the problem! If the bag full indicator is still on, please see the next possible problem.

2. Clog In the Vacuum. If the vacuum was run with a full bag, and when you removed the bag, the bag was completely jammed full, then your vacuum cleaner may be clogged somewhere. When the bag is packed full of dirt, the vacuum continues to try and put more and more dirt in the bag, even if it's full. Sometimes the dirt will even start accumulating inside the hose as it has no other place to go. The first place you should check is the hole that you connect the bag to. Remove the new bag that you installed and examine the hole that the bag connects to inside the vacuum. Can you see anything stuck here? If yes, do your best to try and dislodge it. If you're not able to visibly see anything here, your clog may be inside the hose, or even in the base of the vacuum.

If you have another vacuum cleaner this will really help you in clearing the clog. With the other vacuum, take the suction hose of the good vacuum, and connect it to the hose on your Bissell (still while the bag is removed, and the bag housing door is open). When you connect the hose of the other vacuum, can you hear a difference in the motor? Does the motor start running at a higher pitch when it's connected to your Bissell? If yes, then you've narrowed it down to a clog in your hose. If you can feel suction from the other vacuum through the hole that the bag connects onto, and the good vacuum's motor doesn't change noise when connected to the Bissell, then your clog is in the bottom section of the vacuum. You can sometimes stretch out the hose of the Bissell while the other vacuum is attached, and this will dislodge the clog.

If you don't have another vacuum, simply remove the hose from the Bissell completely. I believe that there maybe 2 screws that hold this hose onto the back of your Bissell, simply remove these two screws, and remove the hose. An easy way you can clear clogs is to take the hose outside, and use a water hose that has a pressurized nozzle on it, and spray down the hose while holding the hose of your Bissell vertically to allow gravity to work its magic. You can also stretch out the hose of the Bissell to get maximum benefit of gravity and the water.

If the clog is in the lower part of the vacuum, it is usually right at the suction port behind the roller brush. This is the most narrow part of the vacuums suction intake in the lower part of the vacuum, and is prone to clogs. Simply remove the four screws on the bottom of your Bissell to remove the bottom plate. Look behind the roller brush to where the suction port is to see if you can see any clogged debris.

If this doesn't help clear your clog, or fix the bag full indicator, I'd really like to try and diagnosis this further with you. Electrolux Model 2100 vacuum won't work


hi from uk may i suggest you remove cover and the new dust collection bag then if you look in the bag compartment there is a gauze filter fitted usually grey in colour ? at opposite end of compartment where bag connects this gauze filter is the outlet from bag compartment that the air exhales when vac is operating ie as vac **** up dust into bag the bag has microscopic holes that allow sucked up air and dust to collect but keeps dust from passing into bag chamber but allows air to escape thro holes and so enter bag chamber then escapes via the gauze filter to outside of vac hope you follow this ?? now if this filter is blocked/never been cleaned/changed ? then the symptoms of indicator bag full light will come on you can remove and wash filter if it is gauze typ? dry and refit then try vacuuming ? or replace filter they are not expensive usually in pack of 3 in uk DO NOT RUN VAC WITHOUT THIS FILTER FITTED ! or you will have some dust in the room ? hope this helps?

Bag was full, changed it, the unit now turns off


Try dialing the control valve to the mid way position. If the unit still shuts down with the bag full light on you have a damaged control valve under the dial on the top of the vac.
This valve failure is common in this model and can only be repaired by someone with original AERUS Electrolux repair parts, generally at an AERUS repair shop.

Bag change indicater staying on and vacuum smells hot when using


I suspect there is a blockage somewhere along the pipes leading to the dust bag.
The bag full or bag change indicator measures how strong a vacuum is present at or near to the point where the bag is connected to the pipes. Under normal conditions an empty bag poses little resistance to the air passing through and therefore causes only a slight vacuum. A full bag poses a lot of resistance and therefore causes a strong vacuum which in turn makes the indicator show time to change.
If, however, there is a blockage somewhere, regardless of the state of the bag, a strong vacuum develops which causes the indicator to show as if the bag is full.
The hot smell is proably a result of the motor having to work hard trying to overcome the blockage.
Try to look into all the pipes - you may need to do a bit of dismantling and/or strech out flexible pipes to do so - to see if there's anything stuck. Also try some (careful and gentle !) poking through the pipes with something like an un-ravelled wire coat hanger, but take great care when poking through the flexible pipes as these can be ripped and then you'll have a differnt problem !

Hi,

I have the above canister vac, which after my son tried to vac the stairs, it rolled down the stairs on him, but still worked, after turned off/on. Then after turned off maybe 10-15 mins., stopped working when we tried the switch. My father in law is our fix it guy, but still having a problem with the switch. Is there a wiring guide we could look at?

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
You can try to call the factory for the Miele S251i schematics / wiring diagram @ the phone number and website listed below or I put a few pieces of information listed below that might help.
1. The vacuum cleaner switches off automatically
A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. Some models have a warning light (triangle) which comes on to indicate that it has overheated. Allow the appliance to cool down for approx. 30 mins. and remove any blockages to the air path.
2. The "Change dustbag" indicator stays on even when a new bag has been inserted
To ensure the dustbag change indicator gives a correct reading, lift the floor nozzle or power head off the floor slightly to prevent the vacuum created in the suction tube from influencing the reading.
3. The exhaust filter indicator is red
Change the exhaust filter and then press "Reset" to switch off the indicator light.

Vacuum shuts off


if you want to fix this problem gently pry up the air flow control knob and look down at the plastic hose connected below the control valve. insert a small screwdriver and push off the hose from the valve. this disconnects the bag full indicator but will let the vacuum operate normally at full vacuum. you will change the bag when suction gets low. this will save you at least $100 repair bill.

Performance indicator light


check to make sure the bag isn't being sucked into the air filter. open the access door where the bag is and you'll see the air filter at the bottom. to check, leave the door open while you would see the performance indicator light on, and then pull up the bag. this is one of many solutions i'm sure to the performance indicator problem.
