LCD TV/DVD PLAYER COMBO - DVD WON'T ACCEPT A DISC

My set was purchased just over a year ago(3/30/07) so it's JUST out of warranty. The TV works fine but the DVD player now will not accept a disc. It should pull in the disc when partially inserted but won't. This player has seen very little use and none, recently. I suspected the lack of use made it sluggish to accept the disc, so I pushed the disc into position. The screen indicator still shows "OPEN" not recognizing the disc is in it. I hit play and it ejects the disc. It also rightly ejects it when I hit eject.
Is this a problem encountered by others? Is there a fuse that could disable it like this? Could there be a glitch has occured in the software that I could reset to correct this? PLease respond to Larry Triplett. My e-mail address is greyhound66@peoplepc.com Thank you very much.

Turns out my suspicions wre correct about the DVD player being "sluggish" from lack of use. By continuing to exercise the drive motor by hitting play and eject while simutaneously attempting to insert a disc finally paid off. Now it readily accepts the disc and everything is functioning as designed. Trust me, I'm not going to let it sit idle for anymore extended periods...................baltogas

I have a 19" LCD

Here's what I would do in your shoes:

1)Try several DVDs, to make sure it isn't an isolated case.
2)Check the firmware version of the TV against the newest one available from Polaroid's website.
3)If you are in warranty, call Polaroid, this is obviously an issue with their TV and will have to offer you options to repair or replace this unit.

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your DVD player.

The DVD player is in constant eject mode - discs will not stay in to play. It has worked perfectly for years. Tonight I was watching a disc, finished, ejected it and put in another and the player just...

Two possible scenarios: First the optical pick up assembly that read the disc has malfunctioned or the eject button is faulty. Either way it is just cheaper to replace the DVD player with a standalone dvd player connected to one the tv input(s). Too expensive to repair just the dvd player if it is tv/dvd combo. The cost for labor and parts is more expensive these days to repair tvs or dvd player. For around $30 you can just replace...much more cost effective.
