No Not at all this is not a harddrive problem, This is a problem related with the operating system. If it has been the harddrive it will not even work in safe mode.
However if you want to check the harddrive you can run the diagnostics to do it, turn off your laptop and then press f12 when you turn it on iy will give u multiple options select diagnostics there, if your harddrive is faulty it will give u error code, if it doesnot gives you a error code then its not a hardware issue. This may be a problem with the operating system.
To solve this problem you will have to go through a detailed troubleshooting steps.
IF YOU HAVE THE WINDOWS DISC then you can try to repair the operating system.
Else backup your data and take the computer back to factorey settings or reinstall the operating system.

Dell inspiron 1545 Laptop computer is getting BSOD on boot, when first ran diagnostics got error: Hard Drive - DST Test Results - Fail Error Code 2000-0142 Msg Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful status...

The error indicates that there's a hard drive issue. If it just happened after the hard disk is reinstalled, remove it and reinstall it. It could be a problem caused by loose connection or improper connections. If the same problem repeats, install the hard drive on another system (to verify whether it works on another machine or not and to confirm it still works). If it doesn't work on another computer/system then your only option to run the system is replacing the hard disk. If it works on another computer or if it's detected on another system, then there could be problem with the hard disk, eg. Corrupt Partition, Windows Corrupt etc....
First of all, try booting into Safe Mode. You have to press F8 during the startup to go into Advanced Boot Options. Once you are in the Windows Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard. If it still doesn't work, it's the hard disk issue. Try with another Hard Disk.
But if in case you can boot into safe mode, check the Hard Disk for errors. In other words, run Windows Checkdisk utility. Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.

I turn on the laptop and it goes straight to the options for " safe mode, safe mode w/ networking or command prompt or start windows n ormally"

That is usually caused by the laptop switching off improperly.
Run safe mode first and then when it has finished close down and restart is normal mode.

You might try loading in the safe mode. To do that, you tap the F8 key when powering on until a list of options show up select safe mode. and follow promotes on the screen. If you get the full desktop, you will want to go to my computer, select c: drive and properties. You should see a listing there for error correcting. It may be called something else, on your system but it's purpose is to correct errors on your hard drive. click on that and follow the on screen instructions. Good Luck

Laptop powers on and goes thru the set up of windows and then you get the windows did not load properly screen, do you want to use safe mode. No matter what you say it just keeps restarting windows but...

That explains it clearly. Your hard drive has failed. Either bad sectors or failing internals. One thing you could try is to remove the drive and re-insert it and try again. If this does not work, then a new HDD is the only option. Retain the old drive and see if you can borrow a computer to slave it to and try and recover any data

I set a new password on my dell inspiron 1545 just today, and now when i log in to my computer it doesnt work. How can i fix this?

If you have forgotten your BIOS or Hard Drive Password for this model, there is a master code that you can obtain from Dell Support. Simply call, Email, or use Online Chat from and give them your Service Tag, and they can help you out from there. If it is a Windows profile password you have forgotton, try accessing the Administrator account from Safe Mode (Press F8 at startup), and remove the password for the user account from Control Panel, User Accounts.

My dell inspiron is not working

its not a big problem,first don't panic.just follow the steps i m telling you-
when computer give options like safe mode, safe mode with net working etc.enter on safe mode
after that if windows starts thn run your antivirus installed in your computer and if u dont hav antivirus then install it using pendrive or cd and run it.
after full scan od the system restart computer again.
if problem persists then again start your computer in safe mode and cut all the importand data from your c drive and paste it on d drive or e drive and reinstall XP or VISTA but remember while installing XP OR VISTA computer will ask you to format whole computer or the c drive only,u only format c drive.
tht's it

and always have one good antivirus installed in your system and update it regularly.
