Replace the latch. There is some plastic in there that has a tendency to come apart binding the latch. Take it with you to Lowes or Home Depot. They sell replacement latches and should be able to match it up.

2004 envoy back door won't closew just bounces back help !

Hey Susan,
Sounds like the latch/lock mechanism in the door is stuck in the "locked" position...you can look at the door lock, if the latch piece is in the way of the vehicle latch piece, you can move it out of the way with your hand/fingers. There should be nothing blocking the door latch mechanism..I hope this is clear enough...

Exterior door stuck closed manually retract ****** remove knobs KWIKSET

You will probably need to replace the latch assembly. There is a small rivet that holds part of the latch together, and it also acts as a pivot point for a small piece that retracts the latch. If it gets bent, the latch won't retract fully, but you might be able to push it back and get the door open.

Door latch stuck on volvo c70

It sounds like the actuators (usually stiff wires) from the door handles and locking knob are OK, which means the latching mechanism itself is probably jammed or broken.

You'll need to remove the upholstered panel covering the inside of the door (search online for "how to remove a door panel") and investigate, pulling on various rods or cables to get the latch to release. You may have to temporarily remove part of a plastic water shield under the door panel to gain access.

If you can get the latch to release, unbolt it from the door (usually from its side), spray every part of the mechanism that you can access with a light lubricant like WD-40, and see if that helps. Try operating the latch manually by pushing with a screwdriver to see what happens. Look for any broken or jammed components or connectors.

If it still doesn't work, but all the related handles and knobs appear to be connected and moving properly, then the latching mechanism itself is probably at fault. Removing it is usually a matter of disconnecting all the control wires or cables, but take notes on how they connect so you can re-assemble everything). New latches are available from the manufacturer, or you can probably find a used one online. These are normally very reliable items, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used one.

Door latch stuck

Bend down on one knee and use one hand to hold the exterior door handle in the open position while using a screw driver to disengage the door latch by inserting the screw driver's tip into the anchor hole and push the screw driver outward towards the car.
