Set-up - WinTv HVR 950

Dear Sirs,
I purchased this product about 1 year ago at best buy here in Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. I was never succesfull in getting in fully hooked up
although I did manage to record a couple television items but had a
flash sign saying I needed to have a de-coder for that. What I need are
EXPLICIT instructions beginning with how the cable is hooked up from the wall to the TV to the PC.Any information is appreciated and I can copy
it for my future use.I use dial-up and plug into a 2.0 connect in the
front of the pavillion. My goal is to copy some news briefs as well as
other items of interest to me. Can you help me? Am most grateful
for any assistance you might gige me in this matter.
Sincerely,
Reik A. Wilson E-mail ReikAWil@AOL.Com

If you want to use WinTV-HVR-950 to watch and record analog cable TV
with Microsoft's Media Center application under Windows XP or Windows
    Vista, do the following:

    • Download the Hauppauge Media Center software video recorder: MCE_software_encoder

    • Run the file. This will install the Hauppauge SoftMCE MPEG-2 recorder for use with Media Center

    • Reboot your PC.

Now, when you run Media Center, go to Tasks / Settings / TV / Set Up TV signal

At 'Set Up your TV signal', click Next

At "Regional settings', make sure your region is correct and click Next

At 'Download TV options', click Next.

At "TV Signal', click 'I will configure my TV signal manually' and click Next

You will then see: Cable / Satellite / Antenna. Chose the source of your TV signal (Cable for use with analog cable TV) and click Next.

Click through the rest of the settings, set up your Guide listings and click Finish. Then return to the main menu.

Go to TV + Movies and then live TV to watch and record TV.

For device setup and cable hooking refer to WinTV-HVR-950 guide. It presents a simple explanation of installing procedure. The only cable you have to connect is the round shaped connector aerial cable. it must go from your tv card to the aerial, either a portable one or the one on the wall.
I think in your case you should solve the problem by installing the required software encoder, as explained above.

    Regards

Xp media center says no ntsc tuner installed

Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600. I have a comcast digital box hooked up to my PC. Signal is bad and black and white media. I installed the "current" driver two weeks ago (mid October) Work great! We had to perform a PC recovery. I downloaded the "current" driver. Got weak signal and black and white only.

Tuning to pick up sky feed

Sounds like from discription the sky feed is set up for analog channel 6. With my TV-HVR-1600 card, there is an option in the wintv application when you click the menu button in the application that says channel suite. If you select this option, you should find and option for analog source. Select analog source in this screen and you should be able to manually add channel 6 in the box at the top of the analog souce screen. Also if you have the sky feed connected and you you click the scan button on this screen, it should detect automatically is the sky feed is on.

Problem installing WinTV HVR 1600

It just means that it is not not registered to work with windows by microsoft.
The manufacturer doesnt have to work with Microsoft to make their products work.

If possible you can go ahead with the installation. To be safe set a restore point before doing so, though

TV Tuner for my HP

Hello Matt,

WISH YOU HAPPY MERRY CHIRSTMAS!!!!!!!!

I am Vikram Kumar Thumu from India- Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue related to the Tv Tuner card. Since, I work with HP as Technical Support I would like to suggest you on this issue.

Well, the "HP ExpressCard TV Tuner for Windows Vista
(RM436AA#ABA)" supports only for Windows Vista.... and it will not work with Windows XP.

If you are lookng for Windows XP Tv Tuner Card, I recommend you to purchase Hauppauge WinTV-PVR USB2 (EC557AA#ABA). As this one supports for Windows XP but needs Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 .

These are available solution for you at this moment . I hope that this should resolve the issue for you.

If you need any other information please do mail me at thumuvikram@rediffmail.com. I'll be glad to help you.

Once again WISH YOU HAPPY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Bye...
