Hi. This is not a monitor problem. Your computer will just command the monitor to go off under the power management. Since it is not doing that. There could be a problem with your windows operating system. Have you tried using other computer and do the same power settings and see if it doing the same. Some computer have power management software. Check your computer manufacturer's website if they have software upgrade for the power management.

All the best!

Ok it seems to be a problem with the operating system itself. This may also happen because of Excess heating of CPU.
What you can try is, backu your data and then take your computer back to factorey settings or reinstall the operating system and see if it helps.

How do I set the NEC LCD194WXM monitor to shut down after 5 mins, 10 mins, 1 hr., etc., etc. Mine stays on all the time!

To change this, do the following:

1) Navigate to the Control Panel by clicking Start and then Control Panel. Then double click on Power Options as shown below circled in red.
2) This will then display the Power Options window as shown below.
3) Once you have opened the Power Option Properties, under Power Schemes select the one that best suits your PC system.
4) Then you can select whether or not to switch off your monitor and/or hard drives after a period of time when it is not being used.

Monitor goes on and off........seemed to come on for the xp boot, but then disappears or is intermittant when the xp login page appears. Only fix sometimes is to reboot the computer. Very strange. Only...

In your Windows XP
  1. Go to Start and click
  2. The Start menu will open
  3. In the start menu click settings
  4. In the settings select "Control Panel"
  5. The Window of control Panel click "Power Options"
  6. In the Power options you will find Display time settings. These are the time settings that determine the time like if your computer stay idle for 5 min, the display will shut down.
  7. I suspect that this time is set to be very low like if there is no activity on the computer such as key punching, typically happens when you are reading an e-book Windows will automatically shut down the display. So you can increase the idle time to say 7-10 minutes and/or a similar setting is "Put the computer to sleep". Try to carefully alter the time values and you will find a good settings that work for you.
If the above tip does not work then there is definitely something wrong with your monitor's hardware most probably the power supply. You need to check it with a repair shop.

Good Luck!

My ViewSonic monitor just blacks out for no reason

It could be a setting you could have done on the "Power Saving" settings under "Screen Saver" settings, if you have Windows XP. Like "Turn off monitor after" a certain time. Even if you don't have Windows, please check the Power Save settings.

Dell E196FP TCo99 Monitor screen problems

The screen colour changing is apparently an auto test procedure on the monitor and was prompted by a fault with the monitor not automatically shutting down when the computer is shut down. The settings on the monitor have been adjusted to rectify this and the problem is now gone.
