How to change aspect ratio on sharp tv?

You cant change the aspect ratio. You can stretch and zoom programs . Some programs like movies are in letterbox and you can stretch to fill the screen, but the results are not perfect. Circles will be oval and you will cut off some of the viewable picture. This is normal

Desktop icons stretched horizontally

Sounds like you need to set the screen resolution for the monitor. The computer should recognize each screen individually in the desktop options dialog. If it doesn't recognize the two different screens, you may want to change the resolution when you plug in the monitor.

Can you please tell me the recommended resolution for Compaq MV7540 17 inch CRT monitor?

The recommended resolution depends upon your preference and the capabilities of you graphics card. I suggest you start with 1024x768.
At some resolution the image may be stretched and a circle may appear a slight oval shape. If this is annoying then adjust the resolution accordingly.

Acer AL2216WBD LCD Monitor Problem

If your computer does not have a video card that supports the correct resolutions for the widescreen monitors, then your picture may get stretched. Much like watching normal tv programs on a an hd set. It will eitther strech or cut off the picture.
Try different settings in you computer display settings.

Oval to Round

Try changing to a different video resolution setting. Most monitors work well with the resolution set to 1024 X 768. I'm not sure what operating system you're using, but here's an example of how to do it with Windows XP...

Right-click on your desktop...then click Properties -- Settings --
You can try different resolution settings in the settings window.

Good luck...and I hope this helps!
