Question about Dynex 4-Port Ethernet Broadband Router (DX-E402)

1 Answer

Hi. I just bought a Dynex DX-E402 wired router in order to place it in the basement in place of a Belkin Wireless router (there are only wired systems down there), so that I could plug in the Belkin on the 1st floor to allow a wireless computer t have better signal. However I ran into an issue-once I setup the router, and configured it the way that both the instructions and something I saw online said (the sequence of powering up stuff), and used the the router page's quick setup wizard, I still would not get any internet. In other words, the computer(s) connect to the router fine, they just don't get connected to the internet. After looking around, it seems the problem is the new router-it won't connect. After looking around the router page, I discovered what seems to be the exact issue: the router does not seem able to get the required info from the modem/ISP-as on the main page, even after running the wizard as the instructions say, the area that shows the WAN/LAN status says something about "Acquiring information" and shows all the info boxes as just zeroes (for example: IP: 0.0.0.0, Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0, etc), instead of actual, correct numbers. The text that says about "trying to acquire data" is to the right of a grayed-out "Renew" button, which is to the right of the area showing the stats that, as afore-mentioned, mostly read as just zeroes. I have let it sit like this for about 40 minutes, but no change, so I once again disconnected it, and reconnected the Belkin router, which both wired and wireless worked fine as always-instantly-so this should not be a matter of it needing to wait longer. My ISP is Comcast, and so I selected the "Dynamic IP" option in the Dynex's setup wizard (and as I recall on pretty much any other device, like the Belkin router when originally setting that up). I suppose I could try and copy the info down from the Belkin router page, and select the Static IP option on the Dynex, but it would be nicer to have a more automatic solution, and as well I imagine the static option may cause issues in the future. Thanks

Thanks, that was a good idea, but unfortunately it didn't seem to work.
It gets to the point about the router not "talking to" the modem, however at that point it just says to call them, which I suppose would also be a good thing to try, although text from a 3rd party is probably easier for me.

Any wireless security settings are going to be accessed from the netgear. When you chain one device to another, you need to know what the IP address the access point is assigned in order to log into its web interface. the wireless options will be missing if you just simply log into the Dynex web interface. To figure out the APs address, you may have to manually configure it to keep it simple.

After connecting my Dynex DX-E402 wifi router to my desktop computer and running the Quick Setup on the router website I still cannot connect to the internet nor will my Netflix-ready DVD player connect to...

Typically wireless routers have one port labeled WAN and four additional standard network ports. The WAN port should be connected to your broadband device, typically a cable modem or DSL modem. You can configure your router with a direct connection to any of the standard ports connected to your computer. Your router must be configured to DHCP automatically with its connection to the modem through the WAN port. So to repeat, outside world to MODEM, then WAN port on router, the wired or wireless connection to your computer.

Dynex-e402 change nat settings to access x-box live

Dynex DX-E402 router, changing NAT settings(UPnP) to access x-box live. go to router settings web page for router, http://192.168.1.1/, enter user name and password to access settings page. user id is usually admin this also for password. under advanced settings click on forwarding. In listed sub-catagories click on UPnp. click enable. this should solve any NAT issues with X-box 360 signing onto x-box live. dynex dx-e402 was very easy to setup.

Can  Dynex 4 Port Router DX-E402 be used to connect internet on a notebook without using cable to notebook?? i.e. Can it be used like a wireless g router??

Unfortunately, the DX-E402 is not a wireless router, so it can not transmit its signal without a physical cable connecting the router to your computer. If you want a wireless router that can also connect to your ISP, check out the Dynex Enhanced Wireless G Router:
