Question about Pentax Optio A20 Digital Camera

5 Answers

Pentax Optio A20 in playback mode shows 'no image/sound' when I know there are 70 pictures on the memory card as I have just downloaded them at Kodak Express for printing. How do I deal with this problem? I did reformat the card before I transferred the 70 images from my PC to the card, after which the 'no images/sound' message appeared whch I ignored to get them printed.

I think you need to create some specific folder in SD card then copy paste your images in that folder,
first take few pictures from CAM and then see which folder has been created by the camera
did you check any other SC card?

The images must be placed in a particular folder , and have appropriate file names to be seen back in the camera. Camera will not display just any file placed in card.

Dear sir\madam,

this sounds interesting... just remove the batteries from your camera and hold the power button for few seconds and then load the batteries back... this is how you reset the settings of your camera... check out if this works... lets discuss bout it in detail...

Cards from lesser-known manufacturers are often as good as, and can sometimes outperform, the better-known names. How well a card performs is in large part determined by your camera's memory card interface. Many cards that aren't anything to write home about will perform perfectly well in high-end cameras and especially in professional-quality digital SLR (single lens reflex) cameras. Manufacturers are often guilty of hyping a card and rarely note how their cards perform with different camera models.

I have a Pentax Optio E40 and get the message that the built in memory is full. How can I see what is in that memory? Can I delete those pictures to clear the memory?

Yes you can play back the images and/or delete them from the internal memory from the camera. I strongly recommend an SD card in the future. The internal memory can hold a maximum of about 87 pictures at the lowest resolution (2 pictures at the highest resolution). It'll be easiest to view the current pictures without an SD card in place.

To view the pictures, press the playback button (above and to the left of the 4-way arrow buttons) on the back of the camera. Use the left/right buttons in that 4-way area to navigate through the pictures. (You'll start at the last photo.) If you want to start the camera in playback mode, just press and hold the playback button while you turn on the camera.

To delete the picture that you are looking at, press the green/trash button to the right of the Menu button. Then press the up/down arrows to reach Delete and click OK (in the center of the 4-way buttons). (See Page 100 (page 102) of the manual.)

If you press the green button twice, you'll get a prompt to Delete all. That is similarly navigated with the up/down arrows and then OK.

Ricoh owns the Pentax Optio Line and has the manuals here: http://www.us.ricoh-imaging.com/support/download-details/356 . (You'll need Adobe Reader to access the program.) The user manual is the second link.

I hope this helps.

How do i move the pictures from the camera memory to the sd card

While in Playback mode, press the MENU button. Use the cursor keys to select "Copy image & sound" and press cursor-right.
Full instructions are in the "Copying Files" section of the manual (page 116 in my copy) If you need a copy, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

Can I put pics from my internal memory onto a memory card? Or how do I download to the computer from the internal memory?

You can copy pictures from the internal memory to the memory card by using the Copy command in the Playback menu. Press the MENU button in playback mode. Use cursor-up/down to select "Copy image/sound" and press cursor-right. Select the camera-icon-right-arrow-"SD" and press the OK button.

Full details are in the "Copying Files" section of the manual (page 105 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

I took pictures, and the camera instead of recording them to the chip, recorded them to the camera memory. I don't have special cord from the camera port to USB to retrieve the picture to the computer....

Go into playback mode. In the camera menu is an entry for copy image. It gives you the option to copy the contents of the internal memory to a memory card.

Have a pentax optio a20 lost the cd downloader how do i download

You don't need any software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
