Windows vista- no sound on avi videos!

Please help!

When I try to play my much loved avi videos new and old on my new lap top (windows vista home) the images play but no sound. I can see an error message saying it needs a codec which I have downloaded but it makes no difference. Even my new digital camera video editing program does not work at all on my new lap top! It's so frustrating!

    Hi again!

Thanks for this -However, it hasn't worked!

I installed the Vista codec package but again I can see the moving images of my avi's but no sound. I have Microsoft media player installed on my computer (was pre-installed on my new dell lap top which has windows vista OS).

I also notice that my new camera has a program disk with it which I installed but it keeps popping a message that it has an error in opening the program. It works just fine on my friends Windows XP computer!

    Any more suggestions?

    Hey everyone,

I installed the other codec package you directed me too, and again it didn't work. I get sound on music files so it seems odd not to get it on avi's.

However, I miracle just happened! I bubble appeared when i turned my computer on saying about installing windows updates, so I installed it and the sound now works on avi's!

I'm guessing that the boffins at windows have finally ironed out this issue with windows vista playing sound on avis as I think it was a really common issue.

Thanks for your help, it was much appraciated!

How to get windows vista home premium on my computer

Try installing mega codec pack. It works for every OS. (Xp or VIsta).
But if the problem persist, try to uninstall your audio drivers and install it in a safe mode...Good luck

Hi you may need to install the correct codecs. If you do not have the right ones then window media is useless.

Try the codec package on this site.

http://www.free-codecs.com/

then come back to me... and we can sort out your camera prog..

> these files play fine on Windows Media Player

Then, continue to use Windows Media Player.

Or, tell us what alternative program that you use that gives "sound-and-no-picture" or "picture-and-no-sound".
What version of that program?
Windows XP? Vista? 7?
Any more "possibly-relevant" details ?

Does not work for video files. AVI in Windows Media - player Vista 32

Hi,
To play the avi files. you can try to options.

1. You can download a different media player which is VLC media player. It plays almost all kinds of video format.

2. Download K-lite codec and run it and you should be able to play .avi files in media player.

Hope it helps :-)

When opening uploaded video AVI file all I get is sound, no pic

That sounds like you don't have the proper codec to play AVI files. Even if you haven't had problems with AVI's before these files may be DIVX avi's instead of the usual Xvid. Download the full codec pack here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm and install it. Restart your computer and try again and you shouldn't have any problems.
Please rate, thanks!

How can i play AVI files on my media center/player on vista

Hi,
Windows Vista Media Center won’t play Xvid and Avi files, even if Windows Media Player will play these files. If you want to add support for third party codecs including Xvid and Avi files in Vista Media Center then you need to install the media control plugin for Windows Vista Media Center.
To install the Codec please click on the below link or copy the URL and paste it in your web browser..
http://damienbt.free.fr/index.php#download
This plugin allows Windows Vista Media Center to utilize te FFDShow decoder, which needs to be installed seperately ((FFDShow rev 1108 recommended: download the last version from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout)) FFDShow adds support to Vista for MPEG-4 video formats like DivX, Xvid, H.264 and also alllows MP3, AAC, Dolby AC3, and OGG Vorbis audio files to be played back.
have any other queries, please let me know..
Thank you.....
