    Hi,

Thanks for your response, I have now taken the diode out but the value is something i've not seen before.

Markings: FR 205 SHS, black body with silver strip.

Where would I get schematic for this dvd player from?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm in the UK and I can't find that diode listed here, also i've been told today that a 1N5821 3A would be an ideal replacement - Is this the UK equivalent of the one that you are suggesting.

I'm a bit confused now, as I don't want to damage my dvd player.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I live in the UK and I have a broken rectifier on my SMPS board in my dvd player - My UK component suppliers don't stock this rectifier and they will charge me a fortune to get it in for me.

My question is this, does anyone of a US supplier that ships to the UK or do you know where else I could get it from?

Component is: NTE 580 Rectifier or does anyone what the UK equivalent would be...!

    Thanks

The surest way is to get a schematic and get the value from there if you can't get a number off the diode itself.

My cross reference book shows that a FR205 is replaced by a NTE580
which is silicon 600v 3A and looks like the image I have
    attached. Does this help?

Surely you can find an NTE580 equivilant in the UK. This is just
    a 600v 3a silicon diode. I would think you could find a
substitute for this at any electronic part supplier in the UK.
The NTE numbering system is the same as the ECG system and everyone
subs by these numbering systems. Good luck.

Power supply board bad, SNC61, SNC62 & SNR60 bad. (Burnt). On the Secondary side of PS. part number ORTP-760(SM-2)-Q20. Unit Model Number HT-Z210, Model Code HT-Z210/XAA S/N 9CMY 1HHQ300417R.

Because manufacturers these days lean toward complete board replacement rather than providing individual components for these, it would be easier to try and obtain another PSU PCB for this model series, assuming a spare is available. I doubt it would be economical or practical to repair this DVD player, since it sounds like the PSU has burnt out/blown up - major parts have been compromised within it; therefore making any repair cost prohibitive. You can always submit the player to a service centre for a second opinion, and/or you can simply ask them where you can obtain a good working (inexpensive) secondhand PSU board from (if that's what you want to do) for this model so you can fit it yourself. It is up to you as to what you decide to do from here - but it could prove expensive - and possibly unreliable in the long term.

Samsung have a habit of using unusually rated/valued non-standard components in their appliance power supplies, which makes the repair/modification harder. Often these parts are impossible to obtain, and some modifications don't work. You can try though. If you do manage to obtain replacement parts for this board, and you go ahead to try and fix it, I do recommend that you replace ALL the electrolytic capacitors on it as well. If at the end of it all, the board is still dead, cut your losses and consider purchasing a new player - but only as a last resort. I doubt you would be able to replace the plug sockets (SNC...) but if it is just dry solder joints on those as well as the rest of the board, retouch them.

Fingers crossed.
