Question about Gateway 7405GX Notebook

1 Answer

I have a gateway notebook. I recdently installed the vista updates with the CD that came with the computer. After this the sound card no longer registers as being installed. I have done the revert to earlier fix, and downloaded the software again and installed but still the same problem. It is a Gateway 6457 Notebook PC but it is not in the selection given and this page wont look for anything further than listed.

Can you clarify what 'vista updates' you mean? Did you got a CD upgrade from Xp to Vista? Or was it a CD that had Vista drivers on it?

I would do a system restore to the date just prior to the date you installed that CD. Here's a good 'how to' if you've never had to do this.

Hope this helps! : )

It sounds like from your statement here...

"I have done the revert to earlier fix, and downloaded the software again and installed but still the same problem. "

...that you have already downloaded the Vista drivers for your sound card, is that correct?

Because my only other thought is that you can run Belarc Advisor to find your sound card make and model, go to the manufacturer's website, and download the driver directly from them. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

This may sound like a stupid question, but have you tried contacting Gateway for help? You may be within the warranty period.

MX8711 notebook, no sound

Hello,

Although gateway doesn't provide free phone support for Refurbished models all of the original software can be restored individually from the restore set(assuming you made it) or downloaded for free from gateways website.

If it's simply an issue with the update causing a problem, try re-installing the sigmatel audio driver from the driver and applications DVD you made, or if you didn't make one click the link below and scroll down to the sound section. You can download a fresh copy from there.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Gateway Mx6440 Sound Problems, installed Vista

Did you download and install this particular driver from Gateway:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=step&st=browse&platform=10022&model=10773&os=10954&type=10096

This is the specific Vista driver for your computer. If you have been trying others, your hardware probably will not work. Hardware compatibility is an issue with upgrading to Vista. You need to make sure you are getting the right drivers from the device manufacturer, and sometimes you might find none available.
