How to change vacuum belt on bissell 6583-x

I am not familiar with this model but the first step would be to
remove the brush bar cover...this may be attached by screws
or numbered tabs which are released in sequence starting
with #1. With the cover off pull the brush bar out and slip the
belt off the pulley. Be sure to buy the correct belt and line up
the groove on the brush bar with the motor pulley...put the belt on
the pulley and stretch the brush bar forward and insert into the
slots on the sides. I hope all this applies to your vacuum.

Regards,
Dennis

Bissell bagless 6583 brush won't turn after new belt

Sorry to hear about the difficulty with the brush. If your brush does not turn by hand freely, then your brush needs to be replaced.

Here is a quick link to order a new brush:

I received as a gift, but it doesn't have a manual and I cannot find one on Bissell's website for Model 6583. Do you possibly have a cross reference? Thank you very much.

BISSELL User's Guides can be downloaded at www.bissell.com
On the front page under Customer Service click on User's Guides and enter the model number of your unit.

Cleaning the filters

Hello,

There are 3 different filters on this particular model. Two of them are foam, and as washable, the 3rd is a HEPA filter that's located on the back and is not washable, but needs to be replaced once a year.

The most important filter, and the one that most people are not even aware of, is located directly underneath of the dirt cup. Directly under the dirt cup you'll see a black tray that says "pull". Pull this tray out, and you'll find a square shaped washable filter. Simply remove this filter and rinse it under water until it's clean. Make sure to let the filter completely air dry before reinstalling it in the vacuum and using the vacuum again.

The second foam filter is located directly above the dirt cup. Remove the dirt cup, and in the clear plastic housing that's directly above the dirt cup you'll find a circular colored plastic piece. Reach your hand up there, and unscrew this plastic part while pulling downward. You'll find a circular shaped filter that wraps around this plastic piece. This filter may also be washed the same way as the square shaped one, again just make sure that the filter is completely dry before using the vacuum again.

The HEPA filter is actually on the back of the vacuum in a grate that pull down to open it and remove it. This filter needs to be replaced only, and can not get wet.

The foam filters can be washed several times, but will sooner or later need to be replaced, as they will start to deteriorate after a few washings.

If you need to purchase these filters, here are direct links to all of the filters on your vacuum cleaner.

Intructions

Hey storm,
Rather than type all that out, it's faster to get you a copy of the instructions.

Fortunately, like most (though not all) manufacturers, Bissell makes owner manuals for their recent carpet cleaners available online on their website. Go here
http://www.bissell.com/Product_Search.aspx?Criteria=9500
and choose the manual for your model ["User Guide (PDF)"]. As long as you have free Adobe Reader software installed on your computer, you can read and/or print the manual out for free.
