> how to recover the stored files There's a chance that the USB-to-disk-drive interface inside the casing is the problem. So, open the case, and disconnect the disk-drive from that interface, remove the disk-drive, and then connect the disk-drive into a desktop computer as a "slave" disk-drive, to see if the disk-drive itself is working, and to see if you can access the stored files. > how to fix the external HDD First, you need to spend about $1 million to create a "clean-room" (as was used when the disk-drive was assembled). Or, search online for a professional "data recovery service", who already have a "clean-room". They can separate the "integrated electronics circuit-board" from the "spinning" part of the disk-drive, and then connect another circuit-board, to see if the original circuit-board is the problem. Or, they can disassemble the "spinning" parts, and try to repair it, just long-enough to copy all the files from the disk-drive. Obviously, not "inexpensive", but it could be your "last-chance" to recover those files.

    > LED light in the external HDD is ON

That either means that the unit is getting AC power,
or that data-transfer to/from the disk-drive is 'active',
i.e., it's not a significant 'clue' as to what is going on 'inside' the casing.

Thankyou IKKenom for your replay , Any software which can be used to recover the data .
    Kind
    regards

  • ikkenom Oct 07, 2010

Yes, there is free software for 'data recovery' from a disk-drive.
First, open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in some desktop computer -- preferably one with lots of 'free' disk-space.
Then, do an online search for 'data recovery' software.
Such software reads the entire disk-drive, start-to-end, and tries to 'stitch' together blocks of data into files that can be copied to that 'free' disk-space.

There are two "standards" for 2.5-inch disk-drives:
    * the older ('EIDE') standard, which will require a special adapter,
    * the newer ('SATA') standard, which uses the same power

Hello,

Go back on Device Manager, right-click the HDD and choose 'Uninstall'. Go through this then unplug and plug back in the HDD. Hopefully if the drivers you downloaded are installed it will recognise it first time.

The manual does not specify the usb size max.
I would expect not more than 8 GB to 32 GB max
Also remember fat 32 cannot support large file sizes more than 8gb

I hate this message.
You can use a program like PC Wizard from CPUID that will tell you what all of you pc specs are.

From your specs you may not have usb 2 ports.
Device manager should also say what usb ports you have.

The best ports to use are the ports on the rear of the computer, front usb ports sometimes dont have as much power to drive external hard drives or high drain devices

Hello there!

there could be problem with your HDD aswell, somethimes usb dont want to recognise some external devices and it shows that error also known as "yellow message".

On your place i would backup all files there and do one format of that for cleaning, who knows what might be in it aswell, some viruses, trojans, ...

If that havent solved your problem, then open up your pc and check look of your motheboard (if you have some eltronic experience you could check joins on it as well with voltmeter) . Thats it.
