Re: Data On The PS3 HDD
Yes all of your data on the hd is on the hd, I can find you one or sell you one. I believe on ebay right now there is one for 40$ which is decent! Or check out a big electronic seller ie circut city frys electronics best buy ect and tell them you want to upgrade your ps3 they will know what to do!

Unfortunetly the HDD's can't be swapped like that. The only way to get the old stuff is to some how get the 40gb working so you can back up your system. Tell me what happend to the 40 and I might be able to help you get it up long enough to back it up so you can get all your stuff transfered. Another way is if you can get the 40gb machine to work the PS3 has a mode to hook a CAT5 cable from the new to the old and transfer that way.
A little more on the HDD swap. The HDD's are machine spacific and can only be recognized by the machine they were in and any other PS3 you try to put them in won't recognize the device without a format will saddly enough wipe the drive clean.
Let me know what's wrong with the 40 and I will see if I can help getting it back up so you can get your saved stuff off of it.
i dont really think the HDD change matters.the fault might be from the game you are playing, probably the disc or something.please give a more vivid description of what happens.and the game you are playing too.
I know what is the problem the same thing happen to me before you need to open your ps3 and look for a battery that the ps3 have inside. the battery is locate under the motherboard take out and them put it back and this is everything whem you finish try to turn on your ps3.
actuallly a lot of ps2 games can be played with the HDMI connected. I do it all the time... however yes the 60 gig will not play every ps2 game and there is a whole slew of the 60 gigs that are not backwards compatable at all. check it out on wikipedia's page on the ps3.
I haven't had a problem with any ps2 game yet, and the only ps game that I own that hasn't played on my ps3 is FF8.
Tell Sony !! I did now im gettin a new 80 gig (lost all my online data tho!)
but hey im gettin a new unit plus there sending me cod 5 cos thats stuck in the ps3
sont no about this fault an its not fixable (smoked mother board!!!)
hope this helps..
mine was outa warranty.(60 gig)
I had to pay the $149 for a refurbished system, lost all of my hdd data, and had to deal with Sony's HORRIBLE customer service for a few hours of my life I will never get back. I recieved an identical 60 gig ps3 with only a 90 day warranty. When I asked about PAYING for a longer warranty they said a longer warranty absolutely wasn't available. Pretty bitter about the whole thing. New Ps3 works fine, but now I shudder every time I turn it on, for it may be the last : (
