How to rightfully, reset an admin's password at start up log in.

If you know the current administrator password, you can change it by going to System Preferences: Accounts.
If you've lost the password, you need Disk 1 of the OS install disk set. Start up the computer and put the disk in the optical drive. Restart the computer and hold down the option key immediately after the chime until a disk icon appears on the display. Wait a few seconds more until the optical disk icon appears. Click on this, then on the arrow to boot up from the install disk.
When the OS installer appears, go to the Reset Password... item in the Apple menu and follow the directions there. (Select the administrator account from the pull-down menu.) If your install disk is not specifically for an eMac, or is made for an eMac with a different graphics chip, the display quality may be poor, but you should still be able to pick out what you need to see from the Password applet.

The numeric keypad turns on but isn't responding

Go to System preferences, Keyboard. Try changing one item at a time to see if it recognizes the keypad. Restart the computer with the keypad plugged into USB port. I dialog box should appear to give you instructions in syncing the new keypad to the Mac.

How can set my power mac g4 up so as that i'm the owner ....and why can't i download programs,or change my os default broweser

Hi.
I assume that you didn't get any disks with it either. Taking full control without disks is tricky, however you can take majority control - as long as you know the admin password.

Open system preferences (under the Apple menu) and select USERS.
You need to add a new user and to do that you have to unlock the padlock at the bottom-left of the panel that opens up. To unlock the padlock you need the admin password.
Assuming you have it, click the padlock - endter the password and then you can add a new user. Make sure you set it so that the new user can ADMINISTER THIS COMPUTER. Create a new password for the new user. Then underneath the name of the original user you will have the name of the new user and in smaller letters underneath each name you should see "Admin" If you don't see admin under the new user go back and check the Administer bit - NOT Standard User.
If everything is OK so far, look just above the pad;lock and you should see a small penel saying "LOG-IN OPTIONS". Click there and change the auto log-on to the new user name. Now close the windows (red button) and go back to the Apple Menu and select "RESTART"
When the Mac retarts it should come up with a completely different desktop and very few icons. Go back to the USERS control panel and go through the same routine we just used to add the new user but this time delete the original user.
You, the new user, are now in charge. You can download, install and do anything you want but the computer may still appear on a network as "Old user's Co,mputer"
To change the default browser, open Safari, go to Safari preferences and change the setting there. It's an odditty that Apple put the setting there - but there's nothing wrong with Safari as the default.
If you don;t know that Admin password you will need an Installation CD/DVD in order to change it.

I have lost the admin name and/or password on my 2006 imac running snow leopard

Place the Snow Leopard DVD in the drive, and restart your Mac holding down the "C" key on your keyboard. This instructs your Mac to boot of the CD/DVD drive. Once in, you will see a menubar at the top. Choose "Reset Password" from the "Utilities" menu. For more information, please visit Apple's support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1274

I've inherited my brother's old Mac Mini (upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard) and I don't know his admin password. He doesn't remember it either, though, how can i reset it?

If you have the instal disc boot up the mac with it holding down the c key. Once it has booted up you can then go up to the menus and use the change password command. Then restart. Hope this helps.

I mistakenly changed the hard drive name on my MacBook and have lost access to iPhoto and iMusic files. Is there a way to recover my previous desktop and access settings?

I take it that you have forgotten the original name of the hard drive if not just rename the disk. Failing that go into itunes go to preferences and then click on the Advanced tab and you can then change where you media files are.

For iphoto look at this article on the apple website

Hope this helps

Master password is lost on mac mini

You should read the Apple Support article on changing/creating a password for the admin account. From there you can control the other accounts. BTW a common mistake is to have the Caps Lock key on. -Ken

Lost Desktop

You didnt change the administrator, you added a profile. SO all the stuff you were using is still in your friends name. You will have to go in as the administrator under his name, and put all your stuff on an external and log back in as yourself and put it on your side.

1. LOG OUT - Hit apple in top left corner, select log out, it will bring up 2 profiles, go in that way.
2. SYSTEM STARTUP - on desktop in whoever's profile click apple in top left, preference and then startup disk, select your profile and it will go to you all the time. Hope this helps.
