Question about Televison & Video

Television lines I "inherited" a sony kv-36fs76u from my "hi tech" brother in law when he emigrated to usa last year.(its about 3-4 years) It is a very heavy tv and difficult to move around. Anyhow the problem im having is lines sometimes faint, thin and slow other times thick dark bands-these seem to be rolling from top to bottom of screen. Not always there when tv is switched on but always appear within 3 hours.I paid a local tv engineer £30 he came out took back off tv-dont know what he did but the lines stopped Until he drove out the street then they returned.I called him again and he said i needed a sony engineer. Is this a big problem or easily - inexpensively sorted,I dont know how much i will be charged and i dont know whether to just dump the Tv.I know my brother in law paid a lot for it.

I have a sony kv 36fs76u, Which works fine for 2 or 3 minutes, then it slowly develops horizontal lines, which rotate forwards and backwards. If the tv is turned off for a while and cools the picture is ok when turned on for the first few minutes, then the lines return.

My friend has traced the fault the fault occurred when the tv warmed up, it is due to a component getting too warm. He used a hoover with a plastic nozzle attatchment to **** cold air around each chip, (one at a time). Like magic the horizontal lines slowly dissappeared. The chip (voltage regulator) was replaced. TV is now fine.

This sounds like a bad cap in the power supply. The component is only starting to fail under load and heat. I'll look up your specific model and see if there have been any reports of this type of problem.

My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

Vertical colour lines on whole screen

The problem is that the panel has failed. Apparently this is a common problem with LCD TV's between 18 mths and 3 yrs old. If it survives over 3 yrs it is likely to last for a few years longer. The cost of replacing the panel is more than a replacement TV!

Tv turns off on its own and now it will not power on

TV parts are only expected to work for 3-5 years. It could be the power board, or it could be a bad backlight. 500 dollar repair minimum, I suppose.
