alright. no installation cd, says software is preloaded with mp3 player and to let charge for 3 hours before transferring anything. so i wait the 3 hours, unplug it and turn it on. menu loads up and everything then when i connect it to usb (its a usb charger). it powers down. there is no reset button, only outputs are usb and headphones. i keep it connected and manually download the rca rip software but it doesn't find the device. so i figured use it as a fm radio for a day(has a tuner) while i wait for solutions. after leaving it plugged in all night i take it to work and it wont even turn on. after messing with it for several hours i take it back to the store with the conclusion it was a fatal error or a glitch occurred.

Run the installation CD first, before connecting.
Are you running vista? You may need a clean version of the installation software from RCA's website.

Reset of RCA opal m4204

I know this is an old post but here you go...

You can try one of two things.

1st try to reset the device by holding the power button for more than 10 sec.

2nd You can try to reinstall the firmware by following these steps:

To update the firmware on your M4200 or MC4200 series, you will need to:

1. Connect your device prior to installation.

2. Click on the download link.

3. Select "Save" and select the appropriate folder to save the installer.

4. Run the downloaded installer and follow the instructions to complete installation.

Hope this helps! If these options don't work I would call RCA support.

Worked first then boot error now comp wont pick it up

Hi, you can try to upgrade the player's firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (moz-screenshot.jpgmoz-screenshot-1.jpghttp://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=187), the firmware it's the second app listed.
If your computer doesn't recognize the player, you'll have to turn it off and keep "PLAY" pressed for 10 seconds while connecting it to the USB port, then update the firmware.
