Hi when the power button flashes red if you hold down the little round white button under the dvd tray and keep holding it down then press the open button for dvd then it will flash a number of lights write this down.
it will be flashing 1 2 3 or 4 lights so write it down then hold down the white button again and press the draw open button again and write down how many again.
do this 4 times all together and tell me what code it has given you then i can tell you exactly what the problem is

so for instance
you hold down the little white wireless button and keep holding it down then press the open button for the dvd tray and say 4 lights are flashin
so write down 4
then hold white button down again and press open button again
it may flash 4 again
then do it again and it may flash 2 lights
then again and it may flash 2 again

when you have gotten these 4 codes post me a message and tell me exactly what they tell you and in the correct order so it may look like this
4 lights flashing
2 lights flashing
1 light flashing
2 lights flashing

if you look at where the button is where you turn it on well you have the green light in the middle well around this is four outer lights that light up red their are 4 of these 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom either side of the green light, their the ones that flash green when its spinning rounf with green lights so write this code down then ill be able to tell you exactly what the fault is ok

let me know then i can assist you further ok

Hi that error code relates to the following problem. the code 1 4 2 2 changes to 1 0 2 2 as 4 red lights is the number 0 so the code you have is 1 0 2 2 and im afraid its not good news

here is what the xbox workers have your code error listed as

E10: Unconfirmed: CPU error, generally caused by a poor connection to the mainboard (cold solder joints/bridged solder joints). This can also be triggered by an error with the TSOP.

this code is basically telling us that the connection between the GPU chip and the circuit board is not complete basically to put it bluntly its over heated the GPU chip and caused the cheap lead free solder xbox used to crack so under the GPU chip their is a bad solder joint and this is causing the problem you are having.

look at the date on back of your xbox if its less than 3 years old then get in touch with their official website and lodge a repair request they will then send you out a refurbished xbox and take yours away with them.

if its more than 3 years old then you have 3 options
1 sell if for spare parts you will get about 20 quid for it
2 pay someone to fix it ( i charge 25 plus parts so just under £30 but im in UK so prices would vary where you are)
or 3 try and repair it yourself

now if your going to do this yourself you will need the following
1 xbox 360 rrod repair guide (use google for this and after hitting search look through the list until you find a free on line repair guide if you have trouble finding one ill send you some links.
2 you will need a T8 and a T10 torque screwdriver or socket to undo the screws under the casing
3 you will need a heat gun with temp settings for about 180deg c any hotter and you will fry the gpu any colder and you wont reflow the solder ( its usually the lowest setting on a heat gun, if you are planning on doing this then you do it at your own risk knowing you could make it worse) also if you are planning on doing it use google again and search for xbox 360 rrod fix using heat gun then follow the instruction perfectly, the circuit board needs to be flat use a spirit level to check this, also any static from your body will fry the gpu chip so earth yourself out by touching a rad or something before touching anything inside your xbox.

you will find loads of guides and tips on how to do this most people remove the xclamps and replace them with screws you can buy a rrod repair kit off ebay for next to nothing and this usually comes with instructions on how to do the xclamp fix.

which ever you choose to do you will need acetone to remove the heat sink paste for the GPU and the CPU chip and to also remove it from the heat sinks you will also need new heat sink paste to put back in its place.

i repair consoles for a living and its not hard to do after you have done a few but getting it right first time is hard and can be a bit hit and miss, even getting it right might only get your xbox working for few days before you get the error come back, without using a £5000 reflow station your never going to solve the problem for ever, my first one i did was my own and that has still be working for over 2 years but as i give warranty with all my repairs and if i cant fix it i dont charge due to this i have had some consoles come back a few days later with the same problem so with the xbox you can never tell how long its going to last.

ill give you one bit of advice buy a PS3 their made to a higher standard and dont have crappy little fans that just about **** the dust in the fan in the ps3 is the size of the bottom of the ps3 about the size of a dinner plate, the ps3 last 10 times longer if looked after, the games look better when played in HD, i fix a few Ps3 but most of mine are xbox'x they dont usually last more than 2 years and when fixed they may only last a few days when i fix a ps3 it last years i never get any PS3 back under the warranty so my advice would be sell your xbox for scrap by a new slim PS3 and see how much better it really is

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance just ask ill assist you the best i can

please could you leave me a rating and a testimonial please as people keep not doing it then we dont get rated on these questions, thanks and good luck getting it sorted just ask if you need further advice ok

    cheers mate

Disc tray

Not entirely sure but maybe the disk drive bricked, though I wouldn't replace it without looking into it more.  But it would make sense consider the noises.  Was there anything attached to the disc or was the disc damaged after this incident?

Disc Tray.

From what I no when the 360's light indicated flashes yellow it means it's overheated, try letting cool down.  I have had so many problems with my 360 and the cdrom drive is number 1.  When my drive started making all that noise i almost started to cry.  What i did was called the Xbox Helpdesk and they fixed the problem right away.  Call the Xbox Helpdesk at this number: 1-800-469-9269 (This munber will get you through faster).  if you ahve any more questions just let me know....
