How to connect a electric cooker

It would have been helpful if you had provide the make and model of your oven/ cooker. If it is an electric cooker you will have to contact an electrician to provide the power connection and connect it. But if you already have a mains power connector at the spot where you want to locate the cooker and the cooker has a compatible power chord connector then you can simply plug it in and start.

If there is anything specific you want to find out about this then please type the question in the comment section. We cannot provide further information without knowing the make and model of the appliance.

Wiring up

  • If it is a single oven attaching a 13amp plug and connecting it to a socket is fine. If it is a double oven it needs to be connected to a dedicated cooker circuit from your fuse board via a cooker control switch with 6mm twin and earth cable.

HOW TO WIRE A SINGLE INTEGRATED OVEN? Can it be wired into the mains cooker point?

An integrated oven that has a 13 amp plug can be wired into a cooker point without any concerns since you are wiring it into a feed that is capable of handling a greater power requirement than is needed.

For the avoidance of doubt, the other way around, if you are considering putting a 13 amp plug on a unit that is designed for direct hardwiring into a cooker point, you should think again because it is probably capable of drawing more current than the 13 amp socket could safely handle

What does it mean when a gas cooker needs hardwiring

Hi,
It means that it does not have a cord and a plug to just plug it into a wall socket...
It needs to be "hardwired" into the electrical circuit with a regular piece of wire...

Oven has 4 conductor power cable, moved to house with 3 conductor

Unless your cooker is totally different to the norm, then yes you can use 3 core cable. assuming you are in the u/k, then the following applys.Brown is live-Blue is neutral, andGreen/Yellow is earth.
Depending on the total wattage of the cooker, you will need to use a min of 6mm twin and earth cable, If in any doubt, consult an electrician
