Question about Brother HL-2070N Laser Printer
Makes loud clicking noises but paper remains in tray. Have changed paper and reversed sides but still bangs away. Works OK on single feed. Help !!!
Before I had checked all of the above I pulled the main paper tray out to inspect the paper, tray, and gears, this time after a cooling down my frustration level. I found a simple answer: The paper size setting tab had moved. Even though I had a second paper feeder, and had tried swapping the paper trays, that did not work since that paper size setting tab was off as well, probably due to slamming the tray home in frustration. Ahhhhh, technology, you are my mistress.

No paper feed and Loud clicking noise. REPLACE CARTRIDGE.
[TONER CARTRIDGE HOLDER] COULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS. roller could be jammed stopping the gears driving the roller. remove the toner cartridge try to move the gears on left back corner.[DO NOT FINGER THE ROLLER] BEST REPLACE. But if you are brave...if you can't move the gear drive,
lube the end at the no gear end,, Perhaps best to buy a new carier...

Tips for a great answer:

The paper is not feeding from the paper tray. The loud click is alarming, but not the problem. Check the adjustments in the paper tray. The left and right guides should be snug, but the rear guide should give between a 1/16 inch and a 1/8 inch of free play.
If the rear guide is tight, or even snug, that is the problem. You can check for this by depressing the lever on the right front of the tray. Depressing the lever should raise the stack of paper out of the tray so that it can slide forward.
If you remove the paper from the tray, you will see calibration marks for the paper size you are using. Unlock the rear paper guide, squeeze the release, and move the guide ot the mark for the size paper you are using. For example, it you are using letter size paper, the read guide should point to "LTR".
