The most common reason is the power jack.

If you wiggle the cable where it connects to the laptop and the power goes on and off, the power jack (inside the laptop) needs repair or replacement.

If not change, remove the battery and try to power on with the A/C. If it works, your battery needs to be replaced. if it doesn't work, your power adapter probably needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

My acer aspire 7736G was working fine, it's about 2.5 years old, and is used mainly with the power cord plugged in. When using it the other day the computer just went dead on me. I took the batter

You have reached the end life of the battery pack. The battery must have some minimum charge to have computer function even with the AC power pack connected. So I suggest you replace the battery pack as a solution. Any local Radio Shack store can test this battery I am told free of charge.

Acer 6493 stop charging in 10 sec

Buy a new battery. The battery is dead. Batteries only have a useful life, then they have to be replaced. If the power cord works and allows you to use the laptop, then your battery is definitely bad if it does not charge or if it does not let you stay on the computer without shutting down after a short period.

When working on my unplugged Acer 'emachines E720' laptop, the battery will indicate full for a couple of minutes. After about 10 minutes it will slowly decrease to about the 75% of the battery...

It does sound like your battery is going bad. Before you buy a new one, I would check with Acer to see if you might still be under warranty to get it replaced, or if you purchased an extended warranty when you bought it. Acer's support number is 1-800-571-2237

I have an acer aspire 5738z laptop.... i m using window 7.... my battery life is only 40 to 45 min.... plz, give some solusation...?

If the battery is getting on a bit, I would blame the battery as it may be low on power. If the battery is less than say 6months old and as long as it has been discharged at least once a month, download a programme from Symantec called: PC Checkup. It is a free programme and will help you to set up your laptop in a way that will save energy and therefore get more life out of your battery. I have it on mine and it works very well indeed adding a further 26 minutes to my power hungry screen and processor.
Hope this helps.

Acer Aspire 5738Z won't hold charge

Sorry. It seems that your battery is dead.
If your laptop is working fine on AC power only (with the battery disconnected), then your battery will need to be replaced.

I have an Acer Aspire 3610 notebook. It wont charge

How old is your battery? When you use your laptop, do you run it on just the battery or do you use your a/c adapter and battery? If you're going to use your laptop for an extended period of time, it's recommended to remove the battery and run off of a/c power alone. This helps to extend the life of your battery. Over time, using both a/c and battery will cause your battery to charge/discharge, which dramatically shortens the life of the battery.

You may simply have a dead battery.

Another alternative is that you have a bad power unit, which is what the a/c adapter plugs into on your laptop. My guess is that you most likely have a dead battery.

Hi I have acer aspire 4350G, it WAS WORKING FINE till morning. iwhen i just swtiched on the laptop now, its screen is blank and power light is steady. CD-rom light is flashing but ther is no sensation in...

Here's some ideas to try. Try them in order and see each one goes. I tried to start with easiest...

  • With it powered up use the key combination to switch between external monitor and built-in display. At least on my Acer it's Fn+F5. The icon looks kind of like an empty square next to a filled in square separated by a vertical line.
  • Hold down power button for ~8 seconds until it turns off then wait about 10 seconds and power it back on and give it a second to see if it will come back to life.
  • With the machine powered off remove the battery. Leave it out for for at least 10 minutes (longer the better actually) then put it back in. Power on machine and see what happens.
  • If the battery removal above didn't work take out the battery again and try re-seating the memory and/or hard drive and/or optical drive (but not at the same time)

Acer aspire laptop won't charge

First of all you have to determine whether it's the battery, charger or the laptop itself.
Remove the battery and boot the laptop on AC power only, if the laptop boots up you can rule out the charger and the laptop, you may need a new battery if that is the case.

Wont come on!

Starting with the easy stuff: Try plugging in the power cord, but not the battery.
If that works, your battery is either dead, or the circuit for it is shorted out.
Are there any signs of life? When you press the power button, do you hear any fans? do see any lights?
Does the screen flicker? Your RAM may be dead if it does.

Completely dead

Check the power adapter connection or the socket. Recently my power adapter socket gave me the same problem. When I check from the adapter using voltmeter it's seems to be working.

But when i plugged it in the laptop, nothing happens. So I google around for help and found this tutorial after following the suggestions I managed to revive my notebook.
