Hi,

if you cannot remember your password, there is nothing you can do than to perform a system restore with your windows operating system CD.

This will help to reset the password. After the system restore is done, your windows will come up without prompting for password.

If your are running windows XP or Vista, insert the CD in your CD drive, allow it boot, allow the CD install till it get to an option where you will be asked if your want to restore your system or install windows afresh, choose restore and your system will be restored automatically. It will not take much time and you won't loose any file on your computer. Every thing will be intact.

Just get, windows operating system disc (XP/VISTA) for your computer and problem will be solve.

If there is a password break, then what's the essence of putting the password. Perform the windows restore and all will be well with your laptop.

Good luck.

I need more info, What is the operating System installed on your notebook? Is there any other active users other than the Administrator? Is the administrator's account built-in or did you created it with your (desired) username?

Without knowing all these, it's not possible to get started with it.

Awaiting..

Well, thanks for the info. It's good that you also mentioned the Edition (Windows 7 Starter). There are several options, but it varies from Edition to Edition. For windows 7 Starter edition, the only thing you can do is (without using any tool) from the command prompt. This isn't exactly password reset method, but it's the Built-In administrator enabling. Password reset will come later.

    First try this:

Click "Start" > "Accessories" > "Command Prompt" [">" indicates the flow of sequence]. Once you reach the "command prompt" right click and select "Run As Administrator", if you are asked to confirm with the windows UAC, simply click "Continue". The command prompt will open up.

Now type in "net user yourusername yournewpassword" ["yourusername should be the username you've forgotten the password and yournewpassword should be a new password for the account] (if you had set anything like, file encryption, you'll loose the access to them, anyway, the next step will also do the same and all other reset methods will do). Press enter and look what message you see in the next line, if it's "The command completed successfully", you are done, logoff and log back again using the new password.

If the above method doesn't helpful, try the following,

    Follow the steps:

In the elevated command prompt window, type in "net user administrator /active:yes" [Note: one space after Administrator and before /, and without quotes], now press enter, you'll see another sentence "The Command Completed Successfully". Exit the command prompt. Log off from the current user, and now you'll see two users on the Windows Login screen.. 1. Administrator and 2. your current username (or maybe three since there's still another active).

Now login by clicking the Administrator and access the computer settings. This time, you need to change/reset your forgotten password for that user. Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and then, on the "computer management" window, click "Local users and groups" again, "users", look inside the right-pane, you'll see all the available users of your computer, right-click your username (the one with forgotten password), and select "Set Password", type in a new password two times on both the boxes and click "Ok". That's all, you are done, now you can close the window and log back to your original account.

If all of the above methods don't work, you'll need a tool to reset the password. Let me know when you are done.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

You better try with the Windows Nt Password Reset Disk.

You can download the tool from here (click here).

And follow the instructions (click here).

Download the file from the first link and create a Live Cd, simply burn the file (it's ISO file). Boot from the CD and you'll follow the oncreen instructions.

Actually there's a utility called Ophcrack, but Windows 7 Version can't be used as Live CD (not bootable), windows xp's and windows vista's versions come with ISO file. And this is the best ever tool we use to crack forgotten password in windows.

I took me several minutes revising your posts, as you did mention that you have two accounts, but when you say "need to get pass the password first to get to any of the users accounts as you turn on the computer i need to enter the password first this is wot i cant remember" that made me little confused and I also thought if it was Bios or Power On or hard disk password.

Anyway, let me know when you are done.

Hello,

Could you clarify what password it is that you have forgotten?

A blue password prompt on a black screen = Bios start up password?

Windows login password?

Or?

Here is how to work around this problem.

    Turn off the computer.

Turn the power on, wait a moment and being tapping on F8 until Advanced start up options appear on screen. You need tos tart tapping on the button after around 5 seconds, just before the windows logo comes.

From advanced start up options select Safe Mode.

When the windows starts and you get the login screen, you should see a new user called "Administrator", click on it and you should be able to login without password, unles if you have set a password there.

Now as administrator you can go start menu -> control panel -> user accounts -> Remove the password from your user account that you forgot the password on.

close the window, restart computer and let it start normally, you will not be asked for the password until you set a new one.

I accidentally locked myself out of my acer (nav50) notebook, is there a way I cn restore my notebook back to factory settings and remove previous password?

You can first go and remove the CMOS battery it is located under the lap top you will have to unscrew some plates and find it. It is a small round battery also you can re-install the complete Operating System using the restore disc that came with your computer this is the last resort. When you remove the battery and leave it out for about 20 seconds it will reset the CMOS to default settings.
If you remove the base plastic cover to expose the memory ect.. All you have to do is locate the wifi card then remove it (very easy) you will then see the system board battery. Now place a flat screwdriver so that it touches both of the wires going to the system board from the battery. Do not do it for a long period of time. Touch it and leave it go and place it back together and off you go.

If this does not work you can go online and get the Acer Aspire Notebook default passwords that often work as well to reset it. Most factory settings use these default passwords when they run into this type of situation. Also if nothing I suggest works then just do a complete install and do not add a password again or if you do remember it.
I hope that this helps you out a bit. John
