Question about Vivitar Cameras
You could have either a bad sound card inside the camera or a bad microphone. If there is a mike port (this will be a small hole with a microphone icon) you could try attaching a mike to the camera and see if you get sound with video that way, ruling out the possibility of a bad sound card inside the camera. If that suits you, and you're willing to use a mike, then you're fine.
I've trolled the Internet, looking to see if others have had your problem, and apparently, this IS a problem others have had. If your camera is still under warranty, I'd suggest strongly that you either exchange it, or have it looked at to see if a professional camera repair shop can work it out for you - but at the low price point of the camera itself, I'd say fight for an exchange for a working model would be your best bet.
I've also looked up specification sheets for this model; they don't go into any detail about the video mode for this model, but reviews from users on many camera sites say there ought to be video with sound - and that they're having trouble with it too.
