Replace a belt on indesit dryer

Hello.

Tools needed to solve the problem

(A)Standard screwdriver,New belt
.

1 Unplug your dryer to disconnect power to the unit.

2 Remove the screws that hold the dryer top in place using a standard screwdriver. The screws are located along the top and sides of the dryer. With older models -- 1996 and older -- the entire top comes off the dryer. For new models, the timer and console stay in place while the rest of the top comes off.

3 Remove the screws that hold the front panel and door in place using a standard screwdriver. The screws are just inside the door at the top front left and right sides of the dryer. The front panel on older models will move to the right side and on newer models the door will move to the left.

4 Remove the existing belt by pulling the idler pulley to the right. This will take the tension off the belt and allow you to pull it away from the motor pulley.

5 Install the new dryer belt by wrapping it around the top of the drum and allowing it to fall around the circumference of the drum. The grooves of the new belt should face down toward the drum. Rotate the belt around the drum to ensure there are no twists in it.

6 Connect the new belt to the motor pulley. On newer models you can access the motor pulley on the front underneath side of the dryer. Pull the idler pulley to the right and loop the belt around it. On older models you can access the motor pulley through an access panel on the back of the dryer. Pull the dryer away from the wall and remove the access panel using a standard screwdriver. Repeat the same steps as on a newer dryer to install the belt around the motor and idler pulleys.

7 Replace the front panel of the dryer and the screws that hold it in place.

8 Replace the top of the dryer and the screws that hold it in place.

9 Plug the dryer in and make sure the belt works properly before trying to use the unit.

Thanks.

I need to replace dryer belt, 1/4 inch width and 92" long. I have opened the top of dryer and removed snapped belt, but do not know how to install new belt.

Thank you for posting your model number. Installing a new dryer belt for this dryer involves the following steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer and remove the lint screen.

2. Remove the two screws that were under the lint screen and lift the top panel.

3. Unplug the door switch conector plug and any ground wire that may be installed on the casing.

4. Locate the two screws that hold the front panel in place. There should be one screw on each side in the cabinet interior.

5. With the door shut, lean against the front panel and remove the two screws that hold it in place. Once the screws are removed, grasp the front panel at the top center and lift straight up to remove.

You should now have complete access to the dryer interior. If the belt is broken, this may cause the idler pulley (tensioner) to come loose. This is normal with no tension on the pulley to hold it in place. To install a new belt (if required) and re-install the pulley, follow these steps:

1. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

3. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Roper and refer to diagram H.

Replacement parts (if required) can be ordered on line at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The part number for a replacement belt is 341241. All these sites offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I have listed also inlcude helpful exploded view diagrams that can help you locate and properly indentify the parts you may need.

NOTE: If you still have the teflon glide type tensioner, Whirlpool recommends you replace it with a conventional roller type idler pulley. The teflon type tensioners caused premature wear to the drive belt. The part number is 691366.

Once you have the belt installed, re-install the dryer front panel by holding it as you did previously. Line up the holes on the inside bottom edge of the front panel with the small mounting cleats on the front edge of the side panels. This can be done by yourself, but an assist may make it easier. Once you have the front panel in place, lean against it to hold it in place and install the mounting screws.

NOTE: Don't forget to reconnect the grounding wire and door switch connector plug. Without the door switch connected, the dryer will not run. Lower the top panel back in place and reinstall the two screws.

NOTE: Placing a piece of duct tape over the dryer vent chute will help safeguard against dropping anything down in the blower fan assembly. If you drop any screws down the chute, you will need to remove the dryer back panel to retrieve them. If you have any questions about this repair, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

The front of the dryer has to be removed to replace the belt. Best I can do is send a link to an exploded view. Unplug remove the top then the front slide the belt over the drum and make sure it will fit to the motor install the fromt tuen the drum by hand to make sure it turns freely. Slipthe belt over the motor pully turn again making sure it is smooth. replace the top and test the operation.

How to install a dryer belt?

Think I can help. Use a large screwdriver "flat head" and pry up the top of dryer. there is a clip on each side on front of dryer. the top should lift in front and stay connected in rear. Prop the top up with something so it doesnt fall. Then look inside twards front and you will see a screw near top on each side. Remove these and the two screws on bottom front close to floor. There is also a ground wire attached to the front with a clip. This can also be slid off with a screwdriver. On some models you have to remove the door. If so just remove the screws that secure the hinge. Now the front should be free. Lift up to remove it. Now you have access to the components. Look in twards motor and you will see a tentioner that keeps the belt tight. Its spring loaded. Push it away from belt and remove belt. Now its just a matter of taking out old belt. Install new belt in reverse of removal. Hope this helps and good luck.

Need to know how to replace the belt on my dryer

Take off front and put belt over drum. Reinstall front. Take small access panel off back to install belt on motor. Idler pulley pushes against belt to tension it. Thanks, please leave feedback or contact me again for more info if you need it.

Belt

The top must be lifted and the front must come off so you can slide the new belt on. When that is done in the back you will see a panel to be removed. Slide the belt back and install it around the pulley on the motor. When you are done put it back together and wala. I hope this helped you out.
