Replace thermostat in heating element on 120v single hot water heater in still no hot water i check for power it has 120 on each side the make is ge 19.9 120 volt # ge20p6sag

  • There should be a temperature fuse look like in much case on the picture and this fuse element is in serial with the power from switch to the heating-element sometimes its hidden in an electrical heat shrink sleeve.or anywhere but is build in its to find before one of the 2 leads before the heating element, the thermostat is only to switch on an max temperature but the safety fuse is made , when the thermostat become defect it has a safety max temp before it becomes defect if it the temperature rises above to fire dangerous if the thermostat dont stop. some times max 120 degrees and more or less to choose the max temp is on the fuse to read.
  • By replace this fuse its importand to place a pliers the flat nose on the lead and right near the fuse element on the lead-site that is having to be soldering so the heat by soldering cannot get in the fuse because it would direct defekt by soldering heat

Why do I suddenly have no hot water in my electric Premier Plus water heater?

1st check the circuit breaker that supplies power to the water heater. If that is OK then check and see if you have power to the heating elements on the water heater. If not then check and see if the thermostat on the water heater has power to its connections and verify that it is calling for the water to be heated. Last if all these checks are OK then you must have a burnt out heating element. Some can be replaced but you will have to drain the water from the heater before replacing the elements.

Hot water recover time

No.
Fold-back elements are low-watt-density, so element does not burn out as easily since heating is spread across more surface area. But recovery remains 16 gallon per hour.
20 amp breaker and 12 gauge wire: max 3800 watts
30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire: max 5800 watt.
4500 watt element heats 20 gallons per hour.

Instead of changing elements: Set thermostats higher so more cold is added to hot water, and then you have more hot water available inside tank.

Rheem 71V30 series water heaters use generic 4500 watt element from hardware store.
Look at label on side of tank for wattage.
Look for wattage and voltage printed on end of each element

Suspects are lower element -or- either upper or lower thermostat.
If water heater has some hot water, then upper element is good, and electricity and circuit breaker to water heater are good.
Dual element tank is 240Volts.

Good news is tank-type electric water heater is fully repairable by homeowner using generic parts from hardware or home center:

The salesman at the hardware store should be able to confirm my answer.
Match up the voltage, wattage and thread size and you should be good.
My element burned out two years ago and aside from draining the water, the job only took a few minutes and I was back in service.
