Those Boston digital speakers were supplied with a few Dell models as part of a package. They need a digital input, and the Creative sound card supplied with those models had digital output. Your new Dell only has an analog output which isn't compatible. The speakers aren't seeing any input signal. If you want to keep those speakers, you'll either need to take the sound card from your old Dell (if you still have it) and install that in your new computer, or buy a sound card with digital output.

Testimonial: "MY Bad my old cp was a gateway with windows xp new system is DELL with windows 7 but maybe same answer applies"

Actually, that was my mistake. I meant to say it was Gateway that supplied those speakers, but I had Dell on the brain. If you still have that system, you can re-use the card. It fits in a regular PCI slot (most computers have a couple of open ones), and driver software can be downloaded from Gateway if the card isn't automatically recognized by Windows. I don't know if there will be any trouble with Windows 7, though. I've only used XP with these speakers.

Due to a resent Microsoft update you have disable the digital output at your computer. Don't worry, this is a common problem. Since you don't clarify your operating system, take a look at this link and follow the steps for your operating system.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

I have a set of boston ba735 speakers that i got with my gateway computer and i tried hooking them up to my mac computer and i'm not getting any sound

Correct me if I am wrong but these are USB speakers and as such need the correct drivers / software to run them.

USB speakers can be very finicky to set up and use but once working are usually quite good.

They are not my preference. Real speakers are so much better and can be placed to take best advantage of the sound they produce whereas USB ones cannot.

Will my boston accoustics ba735 speakers work with a dell laptop?

We also have a Gateway Computer purchased in 2001 with the Boston Digitanl BA735 speakers. We ran into a similar problem when we upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP, with no sound after the upgrade. After consulting with computer stores and "Geek Squad", it was finally determined that Windows XP set the speakers for analog not digital. Once that was reset, our sound returned. Hope this works for you.

Boston Acoustic BA735 digital CD quality 16 bit/44.1khz speakers

Assuming you are using digital BA735.

Dell laptops come with a proprietery s-video dongle. It gives you a digital output which can go into the BA735 speakers.

I use one set of BA735 with two computers. Computer A sends digital out and Computer B sends analog. BA735 plays both. I listen to music using digital while the analog from the other computer alerts me to the incoming messages in Pidgin.

I did have to change bios settings on one computer to use the on-board audio.

To enable digital output in XP, click on the speaker icon > Advanced > Select Enable SPDIF. You can leave the PC Spk Mute unchecked if you want the analog output as well. That's all.

I hope you are able to enjoy the rich sound of BA735. It's beautiful. My ears thank a lot for replacing those desktop speakers. BA735 hardly takes up any space . Two small speakers are perched on the hutch and the bass module is somewhere behind the desk, completely invisible.

Getting Boston Acoustic ba735 to work with my Dell

Hi Tom,

I just got the dell vostro 410 and had the same problem... So I unpluged the digital cable, got a 1/8 male to 1/8 male cord, plugged it into the analog in on the back of ba735 and the other end into my headphone jack on the front of my system and the speakers work great again......... I have XP Prof. installed as os. Hope this helps... by the way 1/8 is the plug that is on the opposite end of your ba735 digital cable that plugs into your computer, just need a cable with that plug on both ends...
Good Luck!
