I f you are serious about getting a machine that will last you a long time I recommend you go and get your self a
Tri-Star. This is a high end Vacuum that is normally sol through in home demonstrations. You can go to your local used vacuum store and they will carry a used refurbished model of a Tri-star as 99% of the,m do! You can buy one from them that will last you 20yrs. It is a metal machine that is very small and compact. It actually used to be called a "Compact"! In the house they start at 2000.00 and you should be able to get one for approx...500.00 used. These machines cost more than some machines that are new. They are made out od magnalite which is magnesium aluminum and zinc. They are indestructable and very light weight. I sold these machines for 20 yrs and I sold them to seniors as well as working people and anyone can use them with no trouble as they are user friendly and they do a heck of ma job. Actually they were one of the very first companies to use "CYCLONIC ACTION" the machine can fill up with dirt and not lose power at all.
They may be a bit more than your average upright but they are five times the machine and will live five to ten times longer.
Hope you check them out at your local Vacuum store ...don't forget ...they will bargain with you a bit and, bring your old one in for a trade in allowance!
This is the most honest advice I could give and not because I sold them because I sold many make and models over the years....I truly believe it is a great machine for the money and if it is durability is the issue you can't beat a Tri -star in that respect

The roller is not working on the carpet but works on the tile. What could cause that?

I have a Hoover S3630 canister vacuum and the brush works on the bare floors but will not work on carpets.

does your vacuum have an adjuster knob on the front? if so try raising the unit so that the brushes don't bind up on the rug and burn out the belt

Yes, your Steam VAc will work on tile floors. You'll want to remove the rotating brushes and install the Bare Floor Tool attachment - Hoover part number 48417003

I need a cleaner for my tile floors which model is best for tile? I am 79 years young and I need something that I can handle. There are so many models that I am confused as to which one to buy.

1st what type of tile do you have? many people use the word tile genericaly...ie: porecline tile?, ceramic tile, natural stone (which is porous), in general ceramic and porceline tiles do not need any protective finish maintenance with chemicals, that said ...no accumulation of foreign wax buildup and dirt should be present...so a mild mixture with white vinegar and cold water will clean your tiles very niceley and also is a bacteria sanitizer ( if you have food spills and any pets in the house). A good self squeeze sponge mop and pail is all you really need.....save your money and do not be fooled or swayed by such nonsense ...also once the floors have been washed and dried...you can then apply a good quality grout sealer with a hand sponge, and let it dry for 3 hours and then apply a 2nd coat overnight. This will help to keep any colorful penetrating fluids from affecting the color of your grout.

Hoover Windtunnel carpet level adjustment

The suction is so great that it sucks up your carpet, then nothing works. I get my children to stand on the corners/edges of the rug so that it stays perfectly flat on the floor while I vacuum. Or, you can turn off the brush roller (set it to "hard floor" setting). Or, tip the vacuum cleaner's front up slightly while vacuuming, to reduce suction.

I used my Hoover FloorMate, SpinScrub Hard Floor Cleaner for the first time today. My intent was to clean the grout in my kitchen/family room floor. Since the water was dirty I know it cleaned the grout...

The Hoover model 800 has seperate brush assembly to do grout. The 500 model (yours) has only the one hight brushes so other means must be taken to do grout. I have a 500 and all tile floors and I'm bumbed too.
